Look at the RX A1020, 2020, 3020 receivers. great stuff comes from that company.

Guess it depends on what you want. If more features and convenience, then prob upgrade. I have always found the Yamaha sound quality to be excellent and I doubt you will notice a huge difference in that dept.

As far as I know component is limited to 1080i, not true 1080p and with larger Samsung 8000 series you could notice the difference in PQ but only if source is native 1080p like a BluRay movie

For dvd/cable/sat/netflix 1080i is more than ok. Sound quality as others mention don't expect much improments

IIRC, nowadays the component video output is limited to 480p, at least for DVD playback. I might as well be wrong, though.

DVD is 480p :) If source is higher like HD cable or BluRay disk player - component cable CAN support up to 1080i (I read somewhere that is artificial limit, not a technical one)

You can (or at least could) do 1080p over component. I'm pretty sure some legacy gear can, but new gear may be a different story.

Last years gen, the RX-A1010, RX-A2010, and RX-A3010 can now be found at discounts and are spectacular receivers. Not many upgrades in the new models. I have a 2010 and it is really a great piece. If you are looking to stick with Yamaha, this is nice way to get a superb unit that is a little easier on the budget.
