I'm new to this site so try not to laugh to hard and fall off your chair when you hear my request for recommodations as to the best receiver to replace my old Sansui 9900Z. My other componets consist of a Pioneer CT-F950 cassette player, an ADC Sound Shaper Three Mark II 12 band equalizer, Technics SL-DL1 linear turntable, 4 Kenwood 888X speakers, and the newest of the bunch-Pioneer PD-M403 6 disk CD player. The Sansui was rated at 500 watts output, and had 2 phono outputs, 2 tape outputs, 1 aux output, and up to 6 speakers (although only 4 at any given time). With the exception of the CD player(of course) I purchased this system in 1981(!!!!), and with the exception of the receiver it's in good shape. My question is what kind of receiver is available that can do what the old one did but at a reasonable price? ANY recommendation or suggestion would be appreciated other than the always popular "anchor", or "target practice". Thanks-NUWA

New receiver

It sounds like your old receiver was capable of 500 Watts or 125 Watts per channel x 4 speakers.
First, are you looking to purchase a 2 channel stereo receiver OR a multichannel 7.1 HT receiver.

To upgrade your system to HT, I would look at a Yamaha RX-V2500 or Denon 3805 which run about $7-800. For the full HT experience, you will need to purchase a center channel speaker and a subwoofer. Also note, Phono inputs are not common these days, so you will only find them on high end receivers.
