I never liked buying new speakers - mainly for the full retail price. I found these old speakers KEF Q5 and Definitive Technology BP10. I believe they were from the early to mid 2000s. I can buy them locally for about 300. Now I don't know which.
They will be replacing my Unisound AU265 (which I love - the sound is not bad but the finish is beyond great). My room is 12 x 21 with about 4.5' opening on the right corner. My receiver is Onkyo SR 503. My center will be replaced soon so shouldn't be a factor. I'm currently using Def Tech CLR1000. I do have a mirage subwoofer that is only 10 inches with probably 75watts amp (which will be replaced soon). I will use these to watch movies probably 95% of the times. The movies I like to watch are the ones with lots of music (piano, classical, etc.)
The KEF Q5 has a really unique look but from what I read, it lacks a little bit of the lower end even though it has 2 6.5" woofers. The Definitive Technology BP10 is "bipolar" front and back have 1 tweeter and 1 6.5" woofer. Both have great reviews and both are...well old. OR would I be better off spending $300 on a pair of new speakers instead of buying some 6+ years old speakers?
My concern is I don't want to drop $300 on a pair of old speakers if the sound will be almost the same as my unisound. Since I'll be using these to watch movies (with tons of piano, classical, etc. in the background), I want more open but rich sound if that makes sense.
Thanks!
