Old faithful...4805 Infocus...problem.

First off, I just have to say that when I purchased the 4805 about 3 yrs ago or more I was blown away and still am this day. I am more than pleased with 480p on an 80in screen sitting about 10-11 ft away. But...about 6 months ago I noticed what appears to be a stuck pixel. Well it's my understanding that it is a stuck mirror? Is this correct? Nonetheless, is there something I can do to unstick it? It is toward the middle right side of screen with pj ceiling mounted. Clean, smoke free house and nobody messes with my stuff. I only have about 1000 hrs on it though it is nearly 4yrs new. A movie/concert or so a week and my xbox360...why should the kids have all the fun? That little dot just ticks me off. Upon close inspection with something playing I can see a faint hint of blu/red. The color wheel from the dlp I guess. Thanks a bunch in advance as a repair probably is not justifiable based on the unit being 480p native and bluebook is most likely low. Any help/suggestions greatly appreciated. BTW...not interested in buying new pj as I have a couple 50in plasmas and a couple 40+ in lcd's...but I would much rather be in front of the pj as it looks just as good based on size/sitting distance rather than playing the resolution number game that so many fall for.

If the problem is outside of the DLP chip like dust in the light line or something of that sort. Then it's easily fixed with a screw driver and carefully used compressed gas.

If it's a chip issue like yours sounds like. I think you will need a new DLP chip. I'm not sure about changing those. You may be able to get it repaired though. I suggest you contact In Focus and get it repaired if you can.

I contacted Infocus some time ago and it was going to be about 2 or 3 hundred to look at/fix. I don't think so I told them. I can live with it certainly and spend the couple hundred elsewhere in the loop. I mean, it's like having one eighth inch or so pixel/mirror stuck on an eighty inch viewing surface. That's like having a pixel or two out on your computer monitor or smaller tv. Not that big of a deal and certainly not worth a couple hundred to me. I was hoping a diy fix or something no so adventurous. Thanks nonetheless.

Well cleaning a PJ is a very easy thing to do if you are good with a screw driver and with electronics. Fixing a DLP chip is another story entirely. I suggest you do a lot of research. You may just find something that works. It could actually be a color wheel issue? If so that's easy to fix. You won't know until you look inside actually, but if it's only showing two colors then it could be a spot on the color wheel. Though i doubt it.
