Alrighty I have another one. Craigslist is GREAT!

With my infinity system there is someone that is willing to sell me bookshelf speakers for my rear surrounds for a low price and another person willing to sell me towers for about $160 more for the pair.

I am wondering do you think it is overkill to have IL40's as my front and IL40's as my rear?

Or should I go with the IL10's in the rear which are the bookshelf.

Looking for a pretty good 5.1 channel setup in this room. The midrange woofers are the same size on the bookshelf as the IL40 towers and of course the same tweeter size.

So should I save the money and go with the bookshelf or pay a little more and go with the tower.

My room size is about 12' by 10'.

If that helps...

Thanks again!

Yes, towers are a bit of overkill for surrounds, especially in a room that size, but that is really up to you to decide. I really like the IL10s as far as bookshelf speakers go. Is this for multichannel music? If so, I'd probably lean toward the 40s, for movies only, the 10s should be fine.

Get Seth=L's opinion. He has IL-20's I think and they have been nothing but great sounding bookshelf speakers.

Actually it's the Interlude 10s. They are great, solid, little speakers. They work well for surround duty and can be typically found for pretty low prices.

It depends on program as it so often does. I have some SACDs that require really gutsy center backs. If you won't make a lot of demands on the surrounds, the bookshelves should be fine.

That is what I heard

I have heard that the bookshelf speakers will work really well. I went talked to my Magnolia sales guy and her filled me in and said with a room that size go with bookshelf speakers.

He also said if you want to go to a 7.1 system eventually then you can look at towers or bookshelf. He said in a room made from HT of approximate size up to 16' by 16' 2 pairs of bookshelf would work great. Anything bigger he said you may want to think (in 7.1) about pair of towers and a pair of bookshelf.

He also discussed that you are not suppose to have the rear speakers overwhelm you it is suppose to provide background noise or sounds that are behind you.

After we were chatting and I was looking at some Def Tech bookshlef speakers he told me he just built his HT and he has 2 Towers a Center and then 4 bookshelf speakers 2 on the side at ear level (custom made stands) and 2 directly behind the seating area up high about 6 - 8" from the ceiling angled downward and he says it sounds great in his 16' by 14' room. He has Def Techs.

So I will look at the IL10's and save that $160 and splurge on all the clearance HD DVD's that are bound to sell for $5.00 soon.

Thanks!

Have about 30 SACD's and about 5-6 DTS Audio/DVD Audio

So I do have SACD's and I usually do put one of these on to impress my guests but none that are really demanding. I listen to them now on the Dipoles and it still sounds fantastic. I imagine with the bookshelf speakers it will even sound better.

I have one Andrea Bococelli SACD and it is pretty musical and the Dipoles do a good job. Other SACD's are like all the Elton John SACD's, David Bowie SACD's Bill Joel, and Bon Jovi. DVD A is like Skynard, Tesla, and Everclear so nothing that major or musical.

Thank you!

just make sure you have surrounds strong enough to play up to the crossover frequency and you'll be fine :) e.g. your bookshelves should have an f3 (-3db extension) of at least 60hz or lower if your crossover is 80hz

Right price!!

Ok, someone is willing to sell an entire set of interlude speakers:
pair of IL40's
pair of IL10's
IL36C center
IL100 Subwoofer
12 gauge monster speaker wire
and
Onkyo 604, I think or 603 receiver.

He will not split up the system but is willing to sell the entire system for $600 as he closes on his house 4/12 and wants everything gone.

I have been looking at the IL10's and IL36C and $260 is the lowest I could find for $340 more to get receiver, IL40's, and subwoofer seems like a GREAT deal. And if I break it down without receiver and speaker cable then $100 for each speaker...

I cannot pass this up can I?

I could go 7.1 with 4 towers, Center, 2 bookshlef and a matching subwoofer and sell the receiver. It is too good to pass up... right?

For HT purposes, you don't need towers. But for multichannel audio such as SACD where you want monopoles, towers would come in handy. But like TLS says, it all depends on the program material.

Yeah but can I pass up this deal?

My question now is can I pass up a deal like this?

Pr. IL 40's
Pr. IL 10's
IL 100 Sub
IL36C Center
12 gauge monster speaker wire (about 100 foot)
Onkyo 575x (old but I can put this in a work out room)

all for $600?

If I do this... I would do 2 IL40 towers in front, 2 IL 40 Towers in back, 2 IL 10's as my surround back, IL36C Center, and IL 100 Subwoofer that would be a pretty sweat and powerful 7.1 channel system, for HT or Multichannel music... Right?!!?

Let me know.

If you heard these speakers and like them, I would say you're getting alot for $600.00. Have fun. :)
