Both of the ones shollings listed are available in my area.

Does wireless matter? I mean it is on a desk with an ethernet cable. My router is wireless so my laptop works off of that...correct?

The ASUS has the better processor and the Inspiron has wireless. Either way, both look like good machines.
(I'd probably go with the better processor over the wireless since you can always add a wireless card for cheap.)

I was actually leaning towards the Dell secondary to the case. The Asus looks like it needs to set up and I need it to lay on it's side, if at all possible. I only have 7" of height available but I have 22'' of width and depth.

***edit*** I could just move where it is located so that shouldn't matter. I just didn't want to rerun all the wires.

Try a new bios battery and if that doesnt work then move the drive cable to D1 or D2 and then reassign boot priority to the one you chose to use and thy that. Also, make the boot hard drive your first boot device not the CD.

I guess I am a bit late, awesome first post huh?

Nows the time to start strippin the junk out of that computer...

go to uninstall programs and dump all the stuff you don't want or need

Nothing like a fresh computer.... get your antivirus installed on there and firefox... :)

Congrats and enjoy buddy...

Oh and good luck with your 8 x 18" infinite baffle subwoofer array - that should be quite the upgrade.... :)

How do I load the antivirus onto this computer? I got the one you told me about and I got it for 2 computers but since it was a download and I don't remember the name, I am not sure where to get it even though I paid for 2 years of it.

If you were using a different OS, you should still be able to download for Windows 7 and use the User/Pass, but you'll have to download the proper OS product...

I know that now is not a good time to start building a PC.

But I think one day you might want to learn how to do it.

If you had told me to build a PC a year ago, I would just roll my eyes  and laugh.

Now I will not buy another PC.

It is NOT as difficult as you think.

Really.

When you can build your own PC, you will know what to do to fix it also.

Learning anything new requires you to go through several stages. One of them happens to be FRUSTRATION/ANGER.:D

My 7 yr old daughter is on her PC everyday.

I didn't even TOUCH a PC until I was in college.

You CAN teach an old DAWG to learn new tricks.:D

+1 for this advice. It's the first thing I always do. Lots of programs that have no business being there! Anything with the letters AOL is always the first to go. After that, I start dumping most of the Dell added stuff...

You should also make a bootable CD for your new computer. The OS should have a wizard program to do this.

Nice looking rig (for the specs). The dedicated graphics card is a huge plus. You'll never go back to integrated once you have one.

Got it...thanks.

All is up and running. Dumping about a million CDs on it now.

Once again: thanks for all the help.

It's usually more effective to rip your cds into an audible file format of your choosing as opposed to simply dumping them on top of the unit! :D

I thought you had your music on an external hard drive? Are these just CD's that haven't been ripped yet?

Remember, the ones on the HD were corrupted, so I dumped them and re-ripped everything.

Hey Greg, sorry to hear about the computer problems. Looks like it is sorted now. Was this the one in the living room?
