Odd Room Configuration - thoughts?

Hey guys,

New to the boards, hoping I can become an active part of the community. What brought me here, however, is my "home theater room".

So, I've got a strange room that I've dedicated to home theater. you can view a VERY rough picture here (m1.freeshare.us/163fs722910.bmp) and hopefully that helps to explain my issue.

I wanted to do a 7.1 system that I could use when I eventually move out of this home and into a bigger place with a room more specifically meant for home theater, but for now, this is what I got....so...

Equipment:
Onkyo TSXR-805
Polk RTI12 x2 : Mains
Polk CSI5 x1 : Center
Polk FXI3 X4 : Surround
Polk PSW505 x2 : Sub

Althought I realize that this is an overdone system for a room this size, it was planned with the intent of not being in this room for more than a few years.

The room itself is 13' wide, 15' long, roughly. I'm struggling for a way to make the surround speakers work. As you can tell from the picture, there's a problem with the closet doors and windows.

So, I'd like your suggestions as to where I should mount the speakers. They're dipoles, for those who aren't familiar with them - which may or may not make it worse.

Also, I'm looking at buying a projectore; either the Optoma HD70 or the Mitsu HD1000U and will need some advice as to how I should mount it, where I should mount it, how to adjust for the screen, etc. I will look through the displays section, but in case anyone has any tips, that'd be helpful! Thanks!

I think your best bet would be to have your seating area on the wall opposite your closet doors.

This would allow you to put your surrounds on the side walls and your rear surrounds on the back wall uninhibited. If the door is in the way you can always mount your surrounds above the door and angle them down slightly.

If that window is wide open I would suggest getting a heavier curtain for it to block out light and help with reflections.

Thanks for the thought. Ironically, I'd planned it the other way (if you couldn't tell from my post) - in that the seating would be closer to the closet wall (i.e. the closet would be the rear of the room) becausei t allowed me to center the projector screen on the then "Front" wall.

If I switch it around as you suggest, since the closets come out about 5 feet into the 13' width, the screen would be very off-center..I guess that was my concern.

For some reason I decided that the window was taller than it probably is (used to have a similar room and the window was massive). That would work very well too. Either way it shouldn't be much trouble, just make sure you angle the surrounds down some and cover up that window.

Thanks Avas. Still thinking through it. The window is pretty tall, actually. Almost goes to the ceiling. So does the closet. It's a strange room, really.

I don't know that i Have an option of putting the speakers up high and angling down because of a) their weight and b) the height of the window/closet/etc.

I feel like I have to sporadically position them. Or maybe I just go with a 5.1. I don't know...either way..it doesn't look like it'll work well.

With regards to your window comment; it's got blinds on it now, but will have something more substantial to block the light before the room is finished.
