Everyone should be able to feel a sense of pride in their work, no matter how trivial it may seem. This type of attitude will help everyone, no matter what they do, feel they are contributing something of value to society, and they are. I always try to pe plesant and upbeat when dealing with these people. It's a rare cashier that doesn't respond positively to this. It's when people "talk down" to cashiers and the like that they slowly turn to the dark side and become surly. Sometimes, just being nice can drag them right back up from the depths.

I just didn't realize that people list "cashier" as a profession when they aren't working. That's all. I stand corrected.

However, there are days where I can't wait for them to fly the coop, but in the end I'll miss them. As for getting ready and enjoying the grandchildren, I wouldn't have it any other way.
