Ive been doing some research on a few different micro systems and have noticed that some offer "optical digital output for system expansion." What exactly can be done with this. All of the ones I have seen so far come with only two speakers.

Not sure what the system is capable of doing, perhaps a CD player in it?
Optical digital is for digital audio signals. That is why the optical cable to pipe the digital system to a larger system to play through.

i figured that except it seemed kind of redundant becaus it is already a full system. Just thought maybe there was a larger purpose behind it that I was missing. Thanks though

Optical Digital Output

You could use the output to connect to a CD recorder or a receiver with surround sound capability. Most stand alone receivers have a couple optical digital outputs for this purpose.
