Very vivid memories for me as well. I had turned 10 the day before. For my birthday, I received a Silvertone transistor radio (still have it somewhere), and had it close to my ear, listening in class. The teacher saw me with it and told me to put it away, until I told her that "this guy says the President has been shot". I really didn't expect her to believe me - It seemed like something impossible to me and it must be some joke. She had me turn up the radio, and we sat around it in class, listening for 15 minutes or so - until she went to the office to let them know. They let us go home early, and for me, it was a somber walk home. I'm not sure if it was the unusual circumstances in hearing the events live as opposed to watching it on the evening news is what made such an impact, but I think I grew up a bit that day.
