Ok, I've been waiting all day on a Dade County inspector, so I can't leave the home office and I've cancelled all my appointments, so yes I'm bored.

Simple question: Who makes the best pizza, it doesn't matter if it's Chicago or NY style. Who makes the best Pizza?

I nominate Lombardi's in Little Italy NYC, I've yet to taste better. Start throwing the rocks gentlemen.

Ahh, Stratman, this is right up my alley as Pizza is my favorite thing to eat and make, but the pizza I make takes about 6 hours of noncontinuous work to form the dough properly.

The best pizza place in the country is right here. They make everything from scratch, dough, toppings and sauce. They also have a great caeser salad. I recommend the Tartufo simply the best pizza in existence.

I happen to have their dough recipe and it is the one I am speaking of. Sadly, most home use ovens don't get hot enough to cook it quite as well as they do, but I get close besides its a lot cheaper than flying out there every time I want some pizza.

Are we talking nationally recognized chains, or any place anywhere? It might be hard to argue without a means of product comparison. :)

You know it Andy, pizza is the ideal food. Nothing tops home made though. Heck my mouth is watering and this dang inspector hasn't arrived.

Whatever pizza turns you on, can be a chain, though I doubt Dominos Pizza will fare in then top 10.:D

Fair enough - I've got to argue with myself for a while before I cast my vote, as I have tasted some great pizza in a few different places, and no - none of them are national chains. :D:D

Having grown up and now living in the NYC area, and having spent 2 recent years of my life living in Chicago, I am declaring myself an SME on the subject!!! :D

My unbiased opinion- NYC thin crust style by the thinnest of margins (think Bush/Gore in 2000). They both have positives: thin crust is easy to eat, is nice and crispy, stays hot longer, and is fantastic cold the next morning when you're hungover. Chicago style is hearty like a meal, it has limitless toppings, more cheese than you can imagine, and it fills you up on a cold day. That said, the major negative to deep dish is that you feel like absolute crap after eating it. No offense to anybody, but the amount of gas produced by one slice of Giordano's pizza could send an SUV cross-country!!!! The other negative of deep dish is that very few places do it right. In Chicago I sampled 10-15 different places, and only 3 or 4 were worthwhile. Thin crust in NYC is done well by so many places, you're never anyplace without good pizza.

Top places:

NYC- Lombardi's (I agree), Grimaldi's (must visit), & John's (6th and Bleecker) are the famous places. 2 additional favorites are Rosa's (3rd btwn 34th & 35th) and NY's Famous (2nd and 41st).

Chicago- Gino's, Giordano's, & Amato's.

As long as we're busy solving the nation's problems on this forum, I think Aberkowitz is onto something here with regards to the fuel crisis... :D:D

We have a local place around here called Stuc's (in Appleton). They make a pretty good pie. I believe all of their stuff is from scratch as well.

As for national chains, Papa John's is pretty good.

One of my local favorites: Angelina's Italian Kitchen, Brandon Boulevard, Brandon FL

And there is this little place in Key West (I wish I could recall the name of it), but I swear to all things holy, I have never tasted better pizza.

I've even been to Italy and have tasted the pizza there, and it didn't compare to this little Key West joint. I'm going to make it my mission to head back down there and figure out the name of the place.

From what I'm told, the pizza in Italy is MUCH different than American pizza anyway. I'm going to Tuscany in June, so I'll be able to tell you much more after my return :)

Living in North Dakota we don't have many options when it comes to pizza, about the best we have around here would have to be Hotstuff.

Hoboken generally has outstanding pizza (I lived there too for a bit!), but the best Italian food there is at Luca Brasi's on 1st & Park. These guys make their own mozzarella daily- any sort of italian style sub, parm dish, or lasagna is out of this world. They also make a ridiculous tuna salad, a rice pudding that deserves its own category of dessert, and some of the greatest hangover eggs and potatoes in the tristate area!

Congrats!!

I can take orders.... You let me know what you want and I can have it shipped down to Miami. Mozzarella will survive overnight shipping... not so sure about pizza though :D

It is different, but you can find the "Americanized" pizza there too (for lack of a better term) meaning the typical crust, tomato based sauce, cheese, topping arrangment.

The authentic Italian variety though is tremendously good but it's not fair to compare it to what we know as pizza here in the states.

My wife lived in Italy during college, she says the same thing, pizza there is totally different than pizza here. American pizza is uniquely American, like spaghetti and meatballs and host of other dishes that we tend to think are Italian, but are inventions from the Italian-American neighborhoods that have crept into the mainstream.
