Hey guys, didnt no where to post this, new to the forum here, need some expert advice as im pretty new to the HDMI stuff im use to the old school RCA adapters and all that. Anyways here the story, looking at buying a blue ray player for xmas, and due to my outdated reciever, was going to get a new one as well, EXCEPT after I figured out what blueray and reciever i was going to buy, I learned my TV doesnt have HDMI ports, it has a DVI-HDTV port instead, i thought they were the same. Here's my currents set up:

TV - Hitachi 46F500 - http://www.dealtime.com/xFS?KW=hitachi+46f500&CLT=SCH

A/V Reciever - Yamaha HTR 5630 - http://www.dealtime.com/xFS?KW=yamaha+htr+5630&CLT=SCH

Now I realize my reciever is fairly outdated, and was planning on upgrading. Here's what im looking at buying:

Blue-Ray Player - Panasonic DMP-BD35K 1080p - http://www.dealtime.com/xPO-Panasonic-Panasonic-DMP-BD35K-1080p-Blu-Ray-Player

A/V Reciever - Onkyo TX-SR606 7.1 - http://www.dealtime.com/xFS?KW=Onkyo+TX-SR606+&CLT=SCH&x=17&y=18

Buying a new TV is out of the question due to finacial reasons. Here's what im not sure about.

To my understanding, if I bought a blue ray player it wouldn't work with my current reciever as it is 5.1, has no HDMI ports, only one fiber optic port. When I say it wouldnt work i mean it wont work on my surround sound, so I figure i would upgrade for a few hundred bucks, correct me if any of this is wrong.

Lastly, the main issue is my TV. It has no HDMI ports, but it has a DVI-HDTV port, what is the difference as I thought these were the same. One of my buddies told me there is a HDMI to DVI-HDTV adapter that will allow for my blue-ray to work. The TV is also 1080i max.

What do i need to get for this set up to work?

If i buy just a blueray player, can i get it to run in full sound with adapters, etc with my current reciever and TV?

If i have to buy a new reciever, which I think i do, will my TV be compatible with a blueray player as it does not have the HDMI features?

If all of this is wrong, what do i need to get for my blue ray to work, as all i want is to watch blue rays on my 1080i tv with good sound?

Sorry for the 20 questions but i am real hurting here, planning on getting it for xmas, and need to know if all of this is compatible as i dont understand most of this.

Thanks alot.

DVI is just the video portion of HDMI. You can't pass audio throught a DVI connector. If I recall correctly, the DVI-HDMI adapter is as much or more than buying a cable with HDMI on one end and DVI on the other. I recommend going to monoprice.com and check it out. I use low cost monoprice.com cables with great results and they are usually the best price.

So you don't need a new TV to get hi-def video.

A new receiver and Blu-Ray player should have HDMI connections so you need one regular male-to-male HDMI cable for that. That should get you the best possible surround sound.

I would run HDMI between other sources and the receiver if your sources and receiver have those connectors. Second choice is to run audio thru optical (toslink) cables (or coaxial digital audio) cables between other sources and the receiver, if your sources and receiver have those connectors, so you can get Dolby 5.1 sound. Again I would go to monopirce.com for them.

If your sources do not have HDMI or optical or digital audio connectors, you may have to fall back to standard RCA cable connections and you will have to settle for stereo or Pro-logic processsing.

If you want to have sound for the TV, there are probably RCA inputs on the TV for that. You only need stereo (RCA cables) for that.

By the way, my brother just bought an Onkyo 606 for $339 at Amazon.com., which is a pretty good discount off of retail.

Sorry I didn't have time to go through your links, but I wanted to give you a quick answer and I have work I have to get back to now.
