Is it futile to sell my x4800h and buy cinema 40? I would like to run 7.x.4 setup without any amp.

Yes. Like the X4800H, the Cinema 40 has nine amps. The Cinema 30 has eleven amps.

Was it a typo, that you meant the Cinema 30?
The X4800H and C40 are almost identical twins internally despite what some professional reviewers/Marantz marketing told us. The main difference is that only Marantz has the HDAMs that are hype, best it can do is do no harm. The C30 will do the job for you, but then you may as well get the X6800H that is again almost the same internally except the C30 has a marginally larger power supply and better heatsink/board layout, unless you can get the C30 for much less than $1000 (based on list price).

In that case, the difference is about USD500, in the USA, the difference is USD1,000 based on list price. So, if it was me, I would negotiate hard on the Cinema 30 and get the difference down to the minimum, may be ask for 10-15% discount?

I don't believe anyone can tell the two apart in blind listening comparison tests, but for a few hundred dollars more, it may be worth to someone who just prefer the look of the C30 and the visually better build quality. $500 more is still a lot though if it doesn't give a longer warranty than the X6800H.

Upgrade would be cosmetic only. Warranty is only part of the issue. After warranty service is a big issue, and a disgrace. I have had to junk a Marantz 7705 after five years due to no parts. I now have the 7706 which is virtually identical, including the SNR spec, but the 7706 is dead quiet, where the 7705 had very slight background. I think my 7705 was a "Monday morning" unit. If your current receiver is working fine, keep it, and don't risk getting a unit that may be trouble. The motto, "let what is good be good" applies here and my advice, and strong, is to abide by it.

Having to use an external amp is a bonus. The less amps in use from one power supply the better. More amps in the Cinema 40 is a downgrade.

No, the Cinema-40 has 9-amps like the X4800. So there is no reason to go from the x4800 to C-40.

The OP wants 11 amps for 11 speakers. So it’s either the x6800 or C-30.
