Hello to all, I am new here. I just set up my Yamaha HTR 6140 amp with my Energy 5.1 surround, everything sounds good, mabe a little tweaking is needed. My question is when I change channels on my T.V. and not all channels do this, I get a little snapping sound that comes out of my speaker. Some channels affect the one of the front's and some affect one of the rears? The snap only comes out of one speaker at a time, they don't all snap all at once.

Thanx
Marc

How are you getting a/v to your reciever?

Cable Box?
TV outputs?

How is everything connected

If I would have to guess I would your getting a different type of signal from different channels. e.g. 2.1 lpcm from one, 5.1 Dolby Digital from another.
That might cause the speakers to pop when the reciever switches to a different type of decoder.

Dig through the menu on your TV/cablebox there might be a setting to force the output mode. It might lead to slightly diminished sound quality on the other formats but IMHO tv broadcasts are compressed to the point you wouldn't notice a difference.

You wouldn't be going between 5.1 DD (Dolby Digital) on high definition channels and stereo (2.0) PCM on standard definition channels on a Dish network receiver/DVR would you? If you used HDMI, the issue could also be due to resolution changes.

I am using a digital ( optiacal ) cable from my T.V. to my reciever. I think i am going b/w 5.1 DD and 2.0, when I change chanels on the tv the amp will say PCM on some channels and DD on others, and thats when I hear that annoying snapping sound.

Browse through the cable box's menu. Look to see if there is a way to lock the output to dd5.1
