Noise from apartment above

thanks

i am more concerned that if i can hear them well once i get the stereo set up i dont want them complaining
A direct impact like a heel on a floor makes and transmits sound much more effectively than a speaker that is decoupled from the structure. I live in a condo and can hear the people upstairs moving around all the time. They only hear me sometimes. :)

I turn my subs off at 8:00 PM and maybe 9:00 PM on the weekends. Music which I like to play a little louder than movies just doesn't get played at night. Saturday afternoons are great for that. I figure the sound gets disguised by traffic and other ambient noise.

Buy drums. People love to hear other people play the drums.:)

Drink a lot of alcohol, these seems to have a deafening affect. It may also reduce your level of concern for the level of noise coming from the floor above you. From what I hear, drinking is often fun for you assuming you have company, which will also distract from the noise.

This thread jogs my memory about an old thread:

How I Used An Amp to Get Revenge
I've actually done something very similar when I lived in an apartment. I just used powered subwoofers instead. Anything in the sub 20Hz range carries through the walls with no problem. The nice thing is there's no way of knowing where it's coming from. It'll shake crap off the neighbors wall. My wife even had to laugh at this stunt. (until things start falling off shelves)

I used this with only the subwoofers playing:

Track #6 - "Subwoofer System Test"

The old guy upstairs told me that he realized something extraordinary was going on down here about a year ago when he heard thunder and lightening one day but there wasn't a cloud in the sky. :D

Reminds me of when my good friend was trying to get out of 6 AM swim practice in high school, by temporarily stealing the "thunder machine" from the drama department, and getting up on the roof to use it. I guess the coach was mildly amused.

I've heard this story before. You need to remind him of the war. Rent U-571.
