Denon AVR-1705, VCR, and Computer.

Ok, I have this setup:

MONITOR OUT (Composite) from receiver to VIDEO IN on my VCR.
I also have my computer's video card (Gigabyte Radeon 9200SE) connected to my receiver via S-Video via DVD/VDP.

Now.... once i have the s-video enabled on the computer , I switch to VIDEO on the VCR, then I switch to DVD/VDP on the receiver...and nothing shows up on the VCR. Am i doing this wrong or does the denon AVR-1705 not upconvert?

I just read your post again and you are actually trying to down convert the signal from s-vid to composit. I'm pretty sure that won't work but I've never tried it.

According to Denon's 2004 AVR Features Chart, the AVR-1705 will upconvert from "Composite to S-Video to Component".

I think you have "upconvert" terminology wrong here. Everything should terminate to your tv set for video upconversion. If your tv set does not have component video in (red/green/blue rca ins), but has S-video in, then the best picture you will get is S-video. DVD to receiver via component is fine, but worthless without component ins on the tv. VCR to receiver via S-video is fine also, but if you don't use S-video to the tv, then you will only have a composite feed (red/white/yellow rca's - the worst out of the three). The monitor out on the receiver is meant for the OSD for your remote if you have that option. Why are you going from the receiver to the VCR? Did you read the manual yet? The setup on these receivers is not as easy as you think.

Monitor out is also for switching video.

example:

Monitor out from receiver to TV...
now..if you have a video camera hooked up to your receiver..lets say, to the v.aux terminals...now...set your TV to video (assuming that thats what you hooked monitor out to), then select the V.AUX input on the receiver and the audio and video will show up on the TV.

Buckeye's right, that monitor out goes to your TV, those are inputs you are describing using the video cam.

I know, but i dont have composite, component, or S-video on my old TV...just coaxial...so i would use the VCR to switch as well.

If that will work great, if not you've got another cheap option. I need to get you to read this, sorry, I know you've got enough junk to read, but this is an easy to follow and pretty short article. RF Modulator article .

Here's a good picture of the back of one, it's the best picture I could find. Do not buy this monster product or we have taught you nothing at all. If we still had radioshack up here this would be easier.Pic of RF Modulator To be fair to JR.com that same RF modulator is $60 CAD plus tax from The Source (new radioshack Canada). CheaperRF Modulator This one's a bit better but shop around, you should be able to get one for under $20 CAD.

This should take care of your problem if the VCR solution doesn't work. I hope, I've never been in this situation, but I did need an RF modulator for my first DVD player.
