No Sound on Denon 2802

I bought my receiver in march or april 2002, so it's been a while and i doubt there may be any kind of warranty left on it :(
I'm starting already to look at prices for a new receiver because i'm afraid of the cost of reparations for the reasons you said above...
I'm looking at Denon AVR-1909 and Onkyo SR606... which one is best ?
I have a PS3 to read Blu-Ray discs and these two receivers are the cheapest with integrated Dolby-TrueHD and DTS-HD decoders...
or maybe the difference between Dolby/DTS HD is not that noticeable compared to regular Dolby/DTS ?

That receiver is definitely not worth fixing.

As far as replacement, ask the receiver guys. I'm not partial any of them, and have difficulty with the whole receiver concept from an engineering standpoint.

Weird... in the same way it happened to DavidS827, my receiver tonight started working again, but sometimes sound goes away again and comes back after some minutes... From my computer, when regular stereo sound is sent to the receiver it works (after a while) but then if i send a 5.1 signal, DIGITAL starts flashing and after that even stereo sound doesn't work and i have to wait some minutes before it starts working again...
Definitely strange !!
I sent him a PM to ask how it eventually worked out for him, if his receiver miraculously recovered or not, unfortunately, sounds like he did not read my message yet...
I hope i'll hear from him soon

Is this ecost.com website reliable ?
Price is so cheap compared to Europe that it makes me wonder... If it's brand new material for such a low prices, i then just hope that they can deliver to France !!

My 2802 would do odd things to. Like suddenly the center channel volume would drop down extremely low compared to the other channels. I would do a master reset and that seemed to fix it, for a while. Finally I just took it back to ABT, they didn't question anything and gave me a full refund. I bought a 2805 and it worked flawlessly. Now I'm using a 3808ci and I have no complaints about it either. Personally I think something was screwy with the 2802. I've heard several complaints about it acting odd in some fashion over the past few years. I'd look for a different reciever.

To Jack Hammer :
You got refunded because guarantee was still running ?
Mine expired long ago as the receiver is 6.5 years old

Yes, I don't recall the exact time frame, but IIRC I had the 2802 for 3-6 months before I returned it and upgraded to the then current 2805. I realize it's is much too late for you to return yours. All I meant to imply was that a few people have had odd or sporadic troubles with the 2802 that seemed to come and go. It may be time to consider buying a new reciever.

Yippie kai hey !
My receiver works fine again (crossing fingers !) ! i opened it, tried to see if anything looked wrong (couldn't see anything that looked abnormal though). I blew a bit inside to remove dust (though there was pretty much none)
Then i plugged a source and hearphones... my first attempt was unsuccessful, the same problem was appearing, and then suddenly it started to work normally again !!
I replugged everything and now it's fine...
As we say in french "Pourvu qu'ça dure !!" (something like "May it last long")
Eventually i'm not sure about what happened but as long as it works, now... i'm saving some money for a future purchase... (Onkyo SR606 maybe in a nearest future)

Thanks to you guys for help and advises )

F***!! I thought the problem was solved but actually it comes back in an erratic way... sometimes it works, often it doesn't... i will have to take it to service and get informed about the cost for reparation :(
Not cool... i can't understand why it sometimes works and sometimes not :(

Intermittent faults are unfortunately common in electronic gear, and they are the worst to trace. You can never find a fault on a working unit, and when you want it to malfunction it won't.

With this complicated microprocessor electronics, its high time they all had diagnostic ports with fault memory.
