No sound from subwoofer

The HSU manual says there are only two problems it could be under the circumstances.

Here they are:

One- the connections are incorrect, the settings on the receiver are not correct, the cables are faulty, or the receiver is faulty (I modified this a tad):)

Two- the subwoofer's amplifier or driver is faulty

I would do the following.

First test-
Connect a source (such as a DVD player, CD player, or another device that uses RCA low-level outputs. Connect the source directly to the subwoofer using the subwoofer cable you have been using. If it works there is nothing wrong with the sub or the cable. (be sure that the gain on the subwoofer is set very low during this test at least 1/8 away from the very lowest volume)

Second test- if the sub didn't work repeat "test one" using a RCA cable that you know works and is not faulty.

Third test- use the high level inputs on the sub using bare speaker wire that is being used for your front speakers. This test will make or break if there is a problem with the amplifier.

Report your results and we will continue troubleshooting.

1) The sub ain't working. check this out by plugging an analog source (CD, tuner, DVD, etc..) into the sub's input. If you hear muffled sounds vaguely resembling what you're playing, you know the sub works.

Now, try that again, but this time with the sub cable you're using. If it worked before and now doesn't, the cable is bad. If you get the same results as in he first test, you know THAT'S good also.

If the sub is working and the cable is good, the problem lies in the receiver. There's not much more I can offer there that others' haven't, aside from becoming very familiar with your manuals and perhaps invoking your receiver manufacturer's customer support for guidance..
Ha, you posted similar tests the same time I did.:D

Almost...

I didn't think if trying the speaker level inputs. Good catch. ;)

That'll help isolate the problem with the sub, if there is one, but my $$ is on a receiver problem.

But, OTOH, if he's running it from the speaker level inputs he's not really using the LFE out so that's still suspect. Square 1...

But, if the sub doesn't work from either, it's coitenly the sub. decisions, decisions...

But, I guess great minds do think alike.

There are two connections for the sub, are you positive it is in the sub "pre out" and not the sub connection that is in the dvd section.
Yes, positive. HSU support e-mailed me back and they think the cable fell off off the actual speaker during shipping. I will look at that and let you know.

OK, one of the wires DID fall off of the speaker. I fixed that and put in Star Wars Episode1, and may I only say, OMFG!!!!

Good to hear you got it up and running. Hsu is a good company to deal with.

So I am now curious what wire fell off the subwoofer. Did you have to open up the sub and reconnect something?

There are 2 wires, 1 red and 1 black, that connect to the subwoofer from inside the cabinet. The connectors are the friction type. I just had to unscrew the speaker from the cabinet (philips head screws) connect it, and screw it back in. Easy surgery.
