No Picture on Onkyo 806 with Panny BluRay

Hooked up my new Panny BR DVD player. I have an old TV that only has component, so everything from my receiver gets sent to the TV with component. When I connect the Blu Ray to my Onkyo with HDMI, I don't get any picture to my TV through component. I do get sound. When I hooked up the DVD directly to the TV with a video cable, it works. Will the Onkyo not send the HDMI signal to the TV through the Component? Is this a "down conversion" that isn't possible? I also hooked up an older Pioneer 47Ai DVD that works fine with the component output. My Xbox also outputs via component. Any suggestions?

Yep, don't think you can "downconvert" HDMI to Comp.

What's the native resolution of the TV? You can use components out of the BR player, but it will only send 480p max resolution.

My Mitsubishi Diamond 1080 series will output 1080i. It is strange. The TV has 3 component inputs. One is labeled HD and will do 1080i. The others are listed as 480p only. Stange that they wouldn't make them all the same. So that is the other problem. My Onkyo only has 2 component inputs. Guess I just have to ugrade my TV and get some HDMI inputs on it.
Also, how come component will only do 480p max on the bluray? I thought component would do much higher?

Let me qualify that statement and say this applies mainly to Blu-Ray DVDs because of the copyright protection issues of the HD format. See pg 32, Component Video Resolution, of the 35/55 manual. Has to do with the processor used.

Shoot, I thought it would at least up-scale SD DVD over Component but it doesn't. Your display should do a good job of up-scaling anyway.
