Setup is in the sig.

The BP7006 towers have integrated powered subs. I do not have dedicated subs in my setup. It's relatively modest, but for example the listening environment is 7'x12' approximately. I plan to make a 3D model of my setup for everyone to check out soon.

If anyone knows about the BP7006 towers, this is my question... preparing for flaming...

Do I need a seperate sub? And why?

*braces for onslaught*

I would have to say you most certainly want a dedicated sub in your system---as this is something any true hometheater set-up needs in terms of sound reproduction. Granted your BP7006's have built in subs, but they are not as capable as a stand alone unit--not to mention that their part of the cross-over network of the speaker itself, and even if you feed it the lfe channel it will still try to produce material from the speakers given channel as well...

Now I have heard members like AcuDef say that their speakers provide enough bass response without a sub....but then again he is running BP7000sc for mains and BP7001sc for surrounds which are much more capable speakers than what your 7006's can reproduce...

That being said, despite your modest size room I would definitely intergrat a dedicated powered subwoofer...

*phew* That wasn't so bad. =)

I'm looking into a lot of different subs but really not looking to spend a lot on one. And since I'm only concerned about SQ, I know I'll need to spend a lot... *sigh*

Well you have the option of having to wait to save for a unit with quality sound reproduction like a higher end SVS or any of the other many possibilities. Or for less money, if you are savy, you could go the DIY route and get alot of performance for your $$$...

Speaking in general terms, this is why I really question the value of having a subwoofer as a hysical part of the mains.

When a speaker is positioned for the best imaging, it's generally not in the same position that would maximize a sub's contribution to the over all sound. You wind up, at best, with a compromise.

When the two are separate, one can concentrate on placing the mains for maximum effect and then take on the onerous task of positioning the sub for less room interaction, nodes and other things that can plague those pesky low. low frequencies and can make then overpowering, non-existant, turn them into mush, or any combination thereof.

I think since I am satisfied with most of my sound, and content for now with my subs, I will just save up. I want a better listening environment (buy a house) before I go any further. :)

My placement is so much more about aesthetics and necessity, I'll probably be scorned by AH once I show it. I basically did placement according to where all the speakers could go and used Audessy hoping it would deal with any placement issues. It's certainly not perfect, but for now it's my only option. :(

I'd leave things just as they are and learn to love it. Subs are notorious for sounding best when they are in the least asthetically pleasing places in the room and underperforming when placed where they look good. But, who knows? You might get lucky here. :D

FWIW, not all of us have free reign to place whatever we want whereever we want. Many of us have SWMBOs.

Huh? Me = acronym n00b.

I have to model up the listening environment, and you'll see what I mean. It's very limiting.

ROFL! Never heard that one before. Yeah, I had to convince her to get this system.

I'll get on the camera soon, I guess that'll suffice.

What do you do with this sytem? If mainly music, you dont need a sub. If mainly movies, you MUST have a sub.

BTW...AccuDT has a big-a** Trinity sub so let let him fool you!

Movies, movies, and more movies. =(

*sigh*

It's so tempting, but I think it'll be more of a luxury than a necessity. The listening environment is tiny and while I can hear and feel the bass lacking, I can live with it for now.

Still, very tempting... was also looking at SVS.
