No audio output from my Sanyo dcx w8

Hello all,

I’m trying to get my mother’s old Sanyo dcx w8 working, but I can’t seem to get any audio output. Everything appears to be working, the speakers make a crackle when plugged in however there is no sound at all. I have even tried plugging in 32ohm headphones however no luck there. Any advice would be much appreciated

thanks :)

The record player, cassette deck and tuner all seem to function, just no sound output? I'd guess amp failure.

Yep, everything seems to be working just zero output. Is there anyway to check and make sure it’s amp failure?

If you have other speakers perhaps try those instead to see if its the speakers that are the issue.

As to analysis, perhaps with a service manual and correct tools and skills....not likely worth repair, tho.

Thank you for the advice it’s much appreciated, i will see about testing the speakers

Also double check the amp and speaker connections and cable to make sure they are not the problem. Good luck!

I did manage to find a circuit diagram of your unit. The circuit shows pre-outs with jumpers to the power amp section. Make sure those jumpers have not been removed. If they have, and are missing, you can connect RCA cables between the pre-outs and amp ins. I suspect that the pre-outs and amp-ins will be on the back of the unit somewhere.

I looked at the manual (at hifiengine.com) and there's a diagram of the back panel and no pre-out/main-ins.....just a few inputs for antenna, cd along with the speaker terminals and something called a "beat cancel switch" :)

The circuit shows preouts and jumpers which was common then. I wonder if they are hidden behind some removable panel. They are clearly marked on the circuit and labelled.

Can you post a link? The user manual I found shows no pre out/power amp in.

That was a rogue site last night. I have now downloaded a complete service manual. Unfortunately there are no preouts. Worse the amp section is IC and not discrete transistor as the other circuit showed. At the age of this unit those ICs are not going to be available and this unit would be a nightmare to service. It is the end of the road for this unit.

Unfortunately I can't up load the manual as it is too large for the server. It is available here.

The output IC may be available, but a local service shop may be harder to find unless a TV shop is still operating. Also, Sanyo produced a lot of semiconductors and it may still be found- if you have worked on a Pioneer SX-780, the STK-0050 output packs are still out there, 45 years after that receiver became available.
