Nintendo Wii U through AV receiver possible??

Hi y'all.
I was just wondering if a Nintendo Wii U can be hooked to an AV receiver in order to get surround sound?

Doesn't it use a standard HDMI cable? If so, then just plug it into your receiver and you are done.

This is normally how game consoles are connected to AV systems. Would be very strange for it to NOT work.
