Do you think the Pioneer VSX-1016txv will drive these 6ohm, 86db sensitive speakers ok? He lives in a small apartment.

A small apartment and those are the only speakers? Yep, I think so. My 1015 handled four 1.5s and a center channel without trouble unless I cranked it. He could even set up the 1016 to biamp the towers.

If they are like my 1.5s, those things will sound better with more power, but the 1016 should be enough for an 2-channel apartment set-up.

I'd be nervous about that, too. Do you know the guy? In other words, if it shows up broken, can you work that out with him? If it's packed well, it should arrive just fine.
