NHT Classic Four and Absolute Tower Loudspeaker Preview

As far as prices go, used prices are quite low on the NHT Classic Fours, I believe they usually go for around $900/pair, which isn't typical for something that retails for $2,700. Most people in the used market seem to treat the Fours like a speaker closer to the $2k price mark than $3k. Also I think the NHT Classic Fours will struggle to compete with either the Salk Song Towers or Ascend Sierra Towers at this price range (the RAAL variants).

The only advantage I can see is in max SPL/power handling for home theater, but really in that case the price of amplification becomes very high to feed these low sensitivity towers.

Fair amount of negativity here. I don't get it. Marketing is a GOOD thing, so is advertising revenue.

The pricing strategy comments are somewhat valid, but that's a tricky call for any company with NHT's history. Inflation is a factor, but ask yourself, with the falling dollar, if other manufacturer's prices have stayed consistent, were THEY overpriced to begin with? And are they now willing to make up for less margin with an increase in volume? I guess we can all feel good about how pure our particular favorites are though, right? And frankly, there is very little I purchase that I pay full price for anymore. It's the way of the world these days.

The really great thing is that the audio world offers so many choices to fill so many different needs, to address different requirements, to satisfy different compromises. Name me one other hobby with such diverse, high quality options. NHT is part of this and has its niche. Maybe if they're a little more successful they'll find the capital to create something "better" to satisfy those enthusiasts who think they've slipped. Or, whatever...

And yeah, I really like my Classic Threes. I admit my bias. But I've heard a lot of so-called "high end" speakers that left me flat. Makes me wonder why the Threes aren't getting more love. But that's just MY opinion. And like a lot of 'em, it's worth what you paid for it.

Peace.

NHT isn't the only one; alot of big box brands are getting more expensive. The JL Audio Fathom F112 subwoofer used to retail for $2,100 a couple years ago (I like to say "pre-Quantitative Easing"), now it's what, $3,100? 48% price increase. In a few years it will probably be $4,000. Wages will still be the same, but government debt has to be monetized for the politicians to keep paying for the warfare state and the welfare state, until we go the way of the Roman Empire--or the Continental dollar.

This thread isn't the place for political discourse folks.
