The online manual seems to have all the answers although tedious to read, I also found Denons tech support interesting but helpful. So far the receiver is working better than expected. I am sure that once I upgrade my speakers the experience will better itself. Should I open another thread regarding speakers........... I promise not to buy them off the back of a truck:D

About Denon receivers being user unfriendly: I'd describe it as more complex than unfriendly. True, the manuals are not what they should be, but their mid - to - high end receivers are loaded with features not meant for novices or people who just want a 5-minute plug-n-play experience. I have a 3805 and 4306, and spent quite a a bit of time learning the ins & outs of setups. After finally getting things right on my 4306, I must say the results are well worth the effort.
Most of the higher-end AV receivers that I've seen on the market are equally complex just because of the sheer number of features.

Here's another question for the experts.....

When playing either a DVD or Satelite movie with 5.1 , the screen on the Denon shows all 5.1 speaker icons. When a DVD is played using the DTS track it shows only 2 speaker icons. I have the DVD connected using the optical output.

Is this normal or are there additional buttons to push?

Thanks again.

Most likely there is a setting in the dvd player for DTS and you have it set to PCM instead of Bitstream so the player decodes and downmixes to 2 channel and that is why the receiver shows it as a 2 channel source.

Glad I could help....... Here's another:

Can the source description on the Denon be changed to display what it's actually sourcing? ( Instead of displaying DBS can it be changed to read XBOX for instance?)

Nope. You have to move up to the 4306 to get that.

Thanks, but since I just purchased an open box 3805 and almost got burned at the stake for it, I shall wait awhile until my wounds heal over to upgrade :)

Actually, the 3806 also supports editing of displayed source names; I don't know about the 3805.

Best Buy now sells higher end equipment thru their "Magnoilia" section located inside most of their stores.

Armando
Wow. I was not aware of that! Thanks for the update!
