I got a great deal on the AVR 3805, brand new but no box and the wrong mike for auto setup( I got the DMS 205) I did not get the manual and know that there is one online its just hard to follow. My questions are:

I was told I could run 2 seperate audio sources(ie movie in the den, and music out on the deck) is there an easy way to set this up?

I would also want to program the remote to run my satelite receiver, any step by step instructions on how to do so?

And lastly, does having the wrong mic impede the auto setup?

thanks in advance

Hi Armando, I can only answer the last question. I used the mic from my old Yamaha receiver and it worked fine.

That new receiver wouldnt be hot by any chance, would it?

LOL

Who sells brand new units without either a box or owners manual?

Even if you bought it 'brand new' from a friend, they would at least still have the manual.(afterall, it's brand new)

Unless Best Buy is now trafficking in stolen goods :) .............. They sold it as a customer return(Open Box Item). I dont think the box and manual are worth $400.00 plus dollars :)

Best Buy?

BestBuy S**Ks! I'd suggest you return it and go for a factory refurbished one instead!

I picked up a DVD payer from them last week at full price and when I got home it had the bestbuy tape/seal on it. I went back to ask and they told me its an open box....but they charged me the full price.

They did have other open boxes which were like 30% off and whn i asked him the difference the moron tells me other boxes dont have a remote and this one had a remote.

I wish there was no law against murder :D

mmmm that does seem awfully odd. However as mentioned above i would take it back and get your money back or demand a new one.

Then again im the type of person that would take someone to court if they treated me unfairly in a business, unless of course they meet my demands ;)

As for your zone question, i am unsure if you can do that with the 3805. To my knowlage you cant. However im not sure i could be wrong

Personal Opinion: BestBuy Sucks.....LOL

Best Buy selling a 3805... something wrong with that. I have been there several times and never have seen a receiver of that quality. They sell a couple of Denon's that are around the $300 price range. The most expensive recevier I have seen them sell was a Yamaha around $700. I know cause I bought it, and it sucked so I took it back and went to Magnolia Hifi and bought the 3805!
Maybe the special ordered it for someone and took it back as an out of box unit...? Strange though this one.

Best Buy now sells higher end equipment thru their "Magnoilia" section located inside most of their stores. After some reading both on this web site and thru the online manual, I was able to get the Auto Mic feature to work, and its my understanding that "Zone 2" is an aplified output and can be setup to run a second audio source> Zone 3 is a pre amp output and requres a seperate amp. I am still deciphering the learning remote. Thanks everyone for there help.

My impression from reading reviews is that these recievers are quite "user unfriendly" even with the benefit of a manual. Is this an accurate assesment?

I've been very happy w/ my 3806 and don't think it's user unfriendly. Just my 2cents.

Interesting..........

I've never seen Best Buy selling 3805s.

You better do your homework before you make up a story about where you bought it.

Holy Assumptions Batman

Armando,

 Can't really figure out why everyone is so upset that you got a 3805 at Best Buy/Magnolia for a really good price. Good Luck with the new toy, it is a great receiver.

I second that. You can get the owners manual for the receiver and lost more here, 3805

There are a handful of Best Buy's around the country that have a Magnolia audio store or department - these carry some higher end audio than a typical Best Buy. See http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp;jsessionid=5QOYLMSIKV0OBKC4D3JFAGQ?type=category&cmp=&id=pcmcat42900050008 which identifies Denon as one of the brands available in these stores.

I guess you better do your homework before you assume others are making up stories.

Oh and arm...you can set up the denon for two sources as you discribed...you'll have to read the manual though and though Ive heard alot of people say they think the manuals are hard to read/understand...I haven't found that to be the case and I dont consider myself a tech nut.

Easy guys!!!.....Arm you're new to Audioholics...please don't come in looking for advice and then be all ignorant about it.

The vast majority of Best Buys do NOT have a Magnolia center in them....mine does and more and more will be converted over the course of the next two years....so when our guys say, "you can't get a 3805 at Best Buy" it's a truthful statement for the vast majority of them! So ease up a bit.....and $400 for a new 3805 is unheard of and does sound hot....so it's easy for the guys to be alittle defensive not wanting to lend a helping hand to either a thief or someone who buys from thieves....but that's not the case....so be happy that you got the 'legal' steal of the year!!!

And please just be a little more courteous next time when you're asking for help...thx:)

Oh that is lame. I may only have a few posts, but I know that implying that Arm was in any way at fault is just ridiculous. What was he "ignorant" about, btw? How many times can a newcomer politely assure us where he bought is amp, even though it is tangential to the question he was trying to get answered?? "you can't get a 3805 at Best Buy" is a false statement. If "our guys" are ignorant of the truth, it does not make them any less wrong, no matter how many posts they have.

Whoever told you that is crazy. The manual, and therefore the Denon AVR 3805 has a very difficult learning curve. It seems to be well documented that the instruction manual is difficult to understand. I really like mine, but I still cannot understand many of the directions after many months of ownership. I learn by trial and error. A few times I had to contact Denon Tech support, friendly but not as good as they should be (maybe it is I who is not so good). But, if I obtain information from one that does not work or make sense, I call back and usually a different tech person helps me and I get it right.
