The old tube TV finally died so we decided to upgrade to HDTV. Laughably, I thought it would be a simple process.
Not having any prior sound system, an improvement is easy to find. We bought an Onkyo SR600 ($269) , an LG upconverting DVD player ($79), a Vizio 37" LCD TV ($799), and a new Hughes HD DVR satellite receiver from DirecTv ($99). Plug it all in and several hours later I feel as though things are going great. When we only listened to the TV speakers before, this was a great improvement!
And then the lip sync or audio delay or whatever it's called got noticeable...then worse..but I couldn't figure out what the cause is. Seemed worse on TNTHD than other stations. I also noticed it when watching an old DVD on the new player as well. It's not every station or all of the time.
I think I get why it's happening now (from reading about the issue online)...but I don't know what my best solution is.
I'm running HDMI from the DVD and Directv to the TV. Optical audio cable from DTV to the Onkyo receiver and coax digital audio from the DVD to the receiver. I've looked all over the Onkyo website and my manual for an audio adjustment but I dont believe it has that feature.
I know for some people it's not a big deal, but this is really distracting for me.
So do I buy one of those Felston units ($200) or do I return the Onkyo for a new receiver or HTIB? I want a separate DVD player because of my 3 year old. I originally bought the Onkyo SR800 but those speakers were way too big in my living room so I opted for the SR600.
Any advice is appreciated. I'm willing to spend **a little** more but I need something easy to set up that sounds good at low and mid levels. We mostly watch satellite TV and movies.
