Newbie question about component video

ok...the component video inputs on the back of my television are labeled Y Pb and Pr .... the outputs on my dvd player are labeled Y Cb Cr ... are these compatible? I just tried out that input method with some decent monster cable audio interconnects i had around the house.... the result was a lovely red picture.. I'm fairly ignorant when it comes to the video realm, but I suspect an impedence issue with the cables. Any help is appreciated..THANK YOU

If you correctly connected Y-to-Y, b-to-b, and r-to-r I don't think you are having a problem with the cabling. It sounds like you may have made an incorrect setting in the DVD player. Are you sure it is set up to use the digital out connections? My old Toshiba DVD player would do the same thing if the HDMI interface wasn't set up right.

You may need to select component out on dvd, or component video on tv.

ok...i'm a lil embarrased that I never bothered to check the integrity of my cable.... bad interconnect..lol do you know of any tips or tricks to adjust the tv for color, contrast, brightness..etc? I remember reading something a while ago which said to use video that had grass and skin/faces..something that was familiar as a reference...and also the credits at the end of the movie..i'm guessing that was something to do with the sharpness or something....

if you have the Star Wars trilogy or other THX movies like King Arthur, they have a poor man's calibration. look for the THX optimizer in the set-up menu.

75 Ohm

1) Use only 75 Ohm video cables.

2) As listed in the first reply check you have selected the correct input and output mode.

3) It is unlikely that your image should need that much correction, if you have high quality equipment. It seems like you do. Think of color correction like EQ. With short run video cables, you really shouldnt need correction in playback, if your set-up is right.
