I'm in the process of upgrading from a 5.1 HTIB around my RCA DLP..I have on order the Onyko TXSR803 and now I am trying to decide on the fronts and center. The SO wants a system where she can hear more dialogue so the center speaker is critical. The fronts and the sub, have to be behind cloth doors in the cabinet on top and sides of the DLP. (The DLP is built into the cabinet) I liked the Polk Monitor 50's at CC or maybe upgrade to the Polk 80's...but the center is still a question mark. The guy at CC recommended a Bose VCS 10 as I have about 4 inches on top of the DLP for a speaker and would like it to be wide and not too high. Since this center speaker is so critical to the boss I want to get it right... (and I've read all of the Bose sucks posts)... What are some of the other alternatives that I should consider? Thanks. Peter

You might want to check out the Deff Tech Mythos (I think that's the spelling). I heard them and was surprised how great they sounded with such a small width. Heard them at Magnolia/BB.

Thanks for all the help and advice

Thanks for the info on the Definitive Technology Mythos....I looked them up and they have some at the local Home Theatre Store here in Houston. I will go by and listen to them. I see a couple of them posted on ebay as well. I can't wait to get this system up and running. Again, thanks for the advice. This site is awesome. Peter

Center channel

I don't think you will find a decent center channel that meets your 4" height requirement. This would require <4" drivers which will have a limited frequency response and wont keep up with a good pair of main speakers. You should consider a larger center on a stand below the TV.

Depending on your budget, check out the Onix Rocket or Onix X-CS centers from av123.com and the matching bookshelf of floorstanders. Three of the X-CS across the front would look and sound great.

The Mythos 7 may fit the bill and should work with the Polks. However, a Polk CSi3 would be more appropriate. Of course this would have to go on a shelf above or below the TV. The SO could camouflage it with some faux foliage.:p

Check out the Tannoy Highline 300 series. The center is 4.29" and may fit. Not sure if it will be enough of what the wife is looking for though.
