Newbie looking for Carver upgrade advice

Hi everyone,

I am getting more and more into this hobby (passion), and obviously the further into it, the more technical it gets. So I am turning to the pro's for a bit of advice.

I currently have a Marantz 2270 powering a pair of Polk Audio RTi6's with a Polk powered sub. I'm happy with this set up (for my budget) but I miss having a rear surround channel and a remote.

I'm thinking of buying a Carver TFM 35 amp and a Carver multi channel Pre-amp.

I know that just asking general opinions is dicey, but, tube amps are simply outside my reach. I have a solid state budget. My questions are these: Compared to the Marantz, will the sound quality be an improvement? Will I be able to run multiple channels from a 2 channel amp, or will I need multiple amps?

Not likely. Competent amps don't have a sound. They sound like whatever music they are amplifying.

No you need an amplifier for each channel.

The Carver TFMs are modded to emulate the sound of the Carver Silver 7 tube monos. These Carvers have a laid back quality that fans love and others call rolled off. There is definitely a signature sound to them. There's a thread over on Club Polk right now comparing a Denon POA amp to a Carver TFM 35.

A 2channel amp will only amplify 2 channels though some can be bridged to 1. There are a ton of Carver 2 channel pres always available on ebay.

There are also some multi-channel Carver amps out there, pricier and somewhat harder to find, that aren't emulated. For details go to www.carveraudio.com

Ron is right on the mark .
TFM 35 , has ample power and if hooked up to a Carver pre with Sonic Holigram , you 2 speaker system will sound great .
If you look at multi channel Amps from Carver , the X series doesnt come with the mod .
