Right now in using a Yamaha rx 481 receiver 5.1 andrew jones bs22 L/R cs22 center bs21 rears and a polk psw 505 12” sub

Black friday ill be looking for a newer model 7.1/7.2 that are supposed to come out in may either the RX series or aventage.

Question is there really any noticeable differences between sound quality between rx series 7.1 and the aventage series to justify the price difference?

And on my speakers I guess the term is called muddy when the speakers just don’t pop with sound I find the Andrew jones not impressing me with day to day tv and Netflix watching unless you turn them up very loud under -20DB

Is there something that is drastically better for a competitive price that often goes on sale that I can pick up one speaker at a time or in a set?
That will take full advantage of the receiver?
I’ve always been a fan of really crisp and clear audio and the Andrew jones “ unless turned up “ are just not giving me that.
I’ve seen the Sony book shelves mentioned many times but is the clarity drastically better? Local guy has a set of Cs5 book shelves posted for $50
Just don’t know if it’s worth it or is there something else that often goes on sale near the normal price point that’s drastically better?

Also I’ve read that the rx 481 only supports regular hdr and my tv is hdr10.
I play PS4 pro Xbox one x and watch cable tv mostly. But I’ve also got a nice growing blu Ray collection going since if got the reciver! Thx for all your answers and please excuse my noobness :)

Oh and I do have the front L/R and rear L/R on speaker stands!

At that level only difference between a .1 and .2 avr is that the .2 has a splitter built in rather than you using one externally....at best all a ".2" avr has is an ability to separately provide level and delay for two subs...

Holy crap that's a huge room (6400 cuft if 8ft ceilings), in a similar volume I use 4 much larger subs....if you really want to fill that room with modest amplification look for higher sensitivity speakers...
Well since I’m going to go at least 7.1 means I need 2 more speakers. So should I get floor standing?

Was thinking of a complete re-thinking of speakers. More sub might help more than more speaker to start....where is your seating in relation to the speakers in this room (subs see the whole space, your speakers are more about the distance between you and the speakers).

Here is pics sub is infront of the rear left.
It shakes the entire house.

I think you need to lower the height of your fronts a bit. The tweeter needs to be at the ear height/level

Thank you! What about the rears? I have the woofer on them at ear level.

Also been looking at the Cambridge sx60s and sx 70 center.

For surrounds, tweeter should about 1ft ABOVE ear level.

Personally, I don't think so. You may consider Denon or Marantz since Audessey auto room correction is arguably better system
Yeah I’ve ran the ypao a dozen times there is not much to it.
Guess I’ll look at those systems and read up on them.

Thanks.
What do you think about receivers? Is the sound quality noticeable an adventage 7.1 vs an Rx 7.1?

Also can’t see any difference between the aventage 2070 and the 3070 besides the number.
Been looking hard at this!

The DAC is the highest quality one on 3070 and it can do 7.1.4 if you add an extra amp. The 2070 is very similiar except slightly lower DAC and can only do 5.1.4 or 7.1.2 and not 7.1.4. Also 150 vs 140w/ch
I have the 2060 in my theater 5.1 system (someday 5.1.4) and the 681 in my bedroom 3.1 system. Both are great units. 2060 is 140w/ch and the 681 is 90w/ch. The Bluetooth is better on the 2060 and the remote can control the tv on the 2060. The 2060 also has preouts so I can add an amp if I choose to. The 2060 also has individual subwoofer adjustments for 2 subs which even 1060 can’t do. I may try 2 subs at some point so that is cool.
Also HDR10 is what is referred to as HDR and 681 does that. I believe 481 does too. Also 681 and 2060 got an update in Dec to do Dolby Vision and HLG in addition to HDR10. Pretty sure 481 did not get that update.

Have you tried the newer 64 bit YPAO found on Yamaha RX-A1070 and higher AVR's? (I haven't so I can't make a comparison between current YPAO / Audessey)

I’m still conflicted if I should stay with the Andrew jones Bs 22s / cs22s or not.

If I should change to something else before I buy floor standers?
