Hi All,

I have recently added a 24x32 addition with 12' ceiling. Was wanting some advice on speaker / AVR selection.

What my plan is currently. Primary purpose is for decent HT with occasional audio / entertaining. Looking for speakers that will fill the room decently given in-wall application. Been a Klipsch fan for many years, however, in-wall is new and I am open to suggestions.

Pioneer Elite SC-72
Klipsch RSA-500 Amp for in-wall subs
Klipsch R-5502-W (in-wall) for L, C, R, LR, RR or R-5800-W's
Klipsch RW-5802 (in-wall) x2 subs

Thank you in advance,
slrdfw

Are you locked in to in-wall speakers? You can do ok with that, but there are much better options - especially for subs in that size of a room - if you can get standalone.

Great question. We wanted as clean a look as we could get and my wife doesn't want floor standing or something "big and gaudy" stuck to the wall / ceiling. Figured that left me with in-wall option. Might be able to get away with stand alone sub, but not sure about the rest of the speakers.

What did you have in mind?

That is a massive room for any sub to pressurize - more than 9000 cubic feet. It's gonna be tough to find something that will be effective and not be somewhat obtrusive. There are great sounding options from HSU (VTF 15), SVS (PB-12 or -13),Rhythmik or PSA - but these are all the "big square box" style, except SVS which has a cylindrical model if you like that look. Unfortunately, you will need multiple subs for that size room (multiple subs are almost always better anyway). Any chance you could hide some with furniture? A couple of these brands offer a wood grain finish that you could use as an end table if you're ok with that look.

i really don't think you'll find an in wall (even multiple) that can handle that size room, but others may have more info on in wall subs than me.

Panteragstk,

Budget was ~4k for rcvr, spkrs, sub(amp if rqd), Blu-ray

Based on replies, might be able to get away with floor subs, but need to stay in-wall for speakers.

thanks

Klipsch have a bunch of different in-wall lines which look good, I would for the THX line myself. Their subs are not great though. Their in-wall subs will certainly be awful. One thing I would advise is not to spend too much on the surround speakers. Your selected surrounds are overkill and disproportionate given your budget. The surrounds have maybe 10% of the workload of the front stage speakers. Here is an inexpensive alternative in-wall that would serve will do fine for surrounds. Your receiver is also eating up a lot of your budget and unless you need all those features, I would go with a far less expensive receiver, as the sound quality will remain the same. One receiver that will work nearly as well is the Denon AVR-X2000, and it is only half the price. For the subs, I would go with something like this dual drive. Yes, they eat up half your budget, but they have the toughest job to do.
