I can't believe it took me so long to discover this site. Tons of good information and now i'm hooked.

Here is what I've got and my dilema. . .

Reciever:
Pioneer VSX-D607S:
Stereo:100 watts per channel, 20 Hz to 20 kHz, 0.09% THD at 8 ohm
Surround: Front: 100 watts x 2, Rear: 100 watts x 2, Center: 100 watts x 1

Mains:BIC DV62si

Center: DV62CLR-S

Sub: None

Rears: None

I'm looking for some descent rears and a sub. My budget is around $300 (I'm cheap!) Do you guys have any suggestions? My room is around 15' x 16' x 10' = 2400 cu ft. I'd like the rears to "in-ceiling" for asthetic reasons, but I just don't know. I'm new to the game, so take it easy on me. Thanks!

For that kind of money I'm not sure you'll be able to do both. As sub goes I would look at the Cadence, it's gotten many good reviews especially for the price.[$229]

For rear surrounds, seeing as you already have the Bic's I would stay with that, however instead of in-ceiling, I would go with in-wall as it should be better to keep the speaking at, or just above ear level.

Hi and welcome to Audioholics.

I'm jumping the gun a little bit here. AverageJoe and I took in the sights and sounds of a 12" Advent subwoofer (ASW1200) this last week. He ran a few tests (nothing too scientific) and will be doing a review of the piece for you all. I heard it yesterday, just for impressions. I think we have discovered THE Budget Sub.

Let this echo from the rafters...it is a WHALE of a buy at $79 delivered!!! (Although, the price just increased on Amazon to $83, including delivery. You can't buy a greeting card anymore for under a hundred bucks, can you?) I'll steal more of AverageJoe's thunder and tell you it stays alive to 26hz!! Build quality is good for what it is, and it is not unattractive. It won't keep up with the SVS's and Hsu's of the world, but it doesn't pretend to. And you know what? It sounded pretty nice with some music played through it, as well as cinema LFE. It's gonna get the AverageJoe-RJBUDZ two thumbs up for value. It certainly would give my ex, a JBL sub, a run for its money for 1/3 the price.

Get one of these and you'll have plenty left over for Bic surrounds.

I think I'm going to spring for the Advent. $83 shipped for 12"! Why not. Any recommendations for the subwoofer cable? Thanks.

A cable? An inexpensive one from your local radio Shack or something. You shouldn't have to spend more than like $15 on one (or around there). Don't let Monster fool you...they're just overpriced.

As Jackson said...don't overspend on a sub cable. 'Taint necessary. Radio shack...10 bucks is fine.

Let us have a report on your sub when you get it. I'm predicting you'll be amazed and wish you bought TWO for that price.

I'm kinda hoping our resident sub-nut, Craigsub pops for one of these and puts it through his paces. We'd like to know how it stacks up against that Xsub (at 1/3 the price).

Have fun.

any estimate on when the review is coming out? also, how is this sub compared to cadence xsub? Im in the same position myself with not too much left to spend on the subwoofer. thanks.

edit: also is it a better buy than the dayton 12" for $139ish?

Suggestion for you here -- Spend a very few $ and get Ed Frias to mod your BIC crossovers. It's a MAJOR upgrade. I just got my pair of DV62CLR-S speakers done and let me be very clear, they're a whole new set of speakers. Best $40 I ever spent on audio. Before, I felt they were an OK set of cheap speakers, nothing like audiophile quality, definitely not good enough to use in my studio or HT. They sounded harsh, messy, undetailed, hard on the ears, generally unpleasant. Now, they're clean, accurate, detailed, and VERY pleasant to listen to even at high volumes. I'm actually in the middle of a mix using them in my studio right now and I'm thrilled with them. They're not as smooth or warm sounding as the B&W DM602 S2s I use in my HT but for the price they're fantastic.

I know you wanted in-walls or in-ceilings, but for the best sound you might consider moving your 62si pair to the back for surrounds and buying another pair of 62CLR-S for mains. I haven't heard the sis but I'm sure with the dual drivers the CLR-S will give you a bigger, fuller soundstage in front.

As for a sub, I haven't heard the Dayton or the Advent, but I can recommend the XSub for a budget sub. I like the one I have. But personally, if you have the patience to wait and save up, I'd wait and get an SVS PB10-ISD. The difference is incredible. Matched with an all-EFE-modded BIC system, you'll have a HT setup that will shock and amaze you and your friends for a price no one will even believe. :)

Hope this helps.

You're saying you got your centers' crossover modded? Can this also be done with the mains (DV62si) for improvement? Who is Ed Frias and how does this mod get accomplished? Thanks.
