newbie here lookin for a powerful sub for a powerful setup

hey guys im new here, just bought a 52 inch sony lcd the xbr model, the bose surround sound has 5 cube speakers that are clean crisp and loud, im happy with everything except the sub, im a bass junkie specially when it comes to my cars n home theater, im running my setup through a harmon kardon reciver the 247 model i belvie from futureshop, can anyone here recomended me a self powered subwoofer that will rattle the house, i heard a couple out there but nothing that meets my needs, what do u guys recomdned, also will it work with my current setup thanks, some guy in my area is selling a velodyne 20 inch sub that puts out 1300 watts for 300 bucks, thanks

SVS is the place for bass, but you'd have to spend more than 300 beans to get one of their subs.

I don't know how well other subs would work with Bose. I have heard it, and had a demonstration. Those small speakers don't go down very low. Their sub was crossed over so high I localized to the sub. You will have to make sure the sub will play high enough. That might prove tricky. Personally I would worry about getting some decent front speakers before dropping a large hunk of change on sub.

As TLS guy indicated, you may have a bigger issue, those other speakers frequency response may not meet the sub that will do what you desire. And, Those subs are a bunch more that $300.

What I want to know about is this Velodyne 20" subwoofer. To my knowledge they never made a 20" sub, and if they did I can't imagine anyone would let it go for $300. The Bose are a very serious limiting factor, sell the whole accoustimas system and get a new rig all together is my suggestion.

And SVS should satisfy any bass junkie.

And what is being said to you is there is no such beast. Velodyne has never made a 20" sub as far as I know. Various models with 18" drivers yes. They make good subs, so if the price is right and it works, I'm sure it will meet your needs.

I'll second Seth's comments. Bose and "powerful" do not belong in the same sentence.

Velodyne have a good reputation.

However, I and others have advised you to worry about your main speakers first. This is important advice. No sub manufacturer worth his salt is going to consider trying to splice his sub to diminutive moving coil drivers.

I have a feeling it is raw noise you are after. Those of us trying to help you, I think, are concerned with musicality and realism. If it it just noise you are after then it really does not matter what you do.

Seriously though, there is a lot more to this than shaking the floor.

A 20" driver wouldn't even fit in that cabinet, nor would you get any usable sound out of it (it would require a MUCH larger enclosure). I'm guessing it is a typo. He either meant 10" or 12".

Do a search on Bose and you will come up with plenty of info as to why they are not the best choice. If you like them, there is nothing wrong with that, but they are NOT going to deliver when it comes to all out SPL (Sound Pressure Level).

You can easily add a sub to an Acoustimass setup; you simply feed it directly from a sub pre-out and set the Bose speakers to small.

great lol i messed up i guess what can i do now, i spent alota money i guess a newbie mistake is what i made with the bose, i cant do much now but still would like to add bass, but those bose speakers are not somthing terible i think they are above average a bit,

Nothing wrong with you being happy with those speakers. If you like them, don't worry about it much. As I said too, you can simply add a true subwoofer to the mix to add punch to the low end.
