newbie brain: BOSE IS GOD

On a side note that BOSE suspension is freakin awesome! I've read a couple of write-ups in different magazines about it. It is an extremely advanced active suspension set-up. Instead of your car hitting a bump and then reacting, the shock absorber trying to absorb the bump, the springs trying to absorb the bump, etc. The BOSE system senses the wheel movement and does hundreds of reactions per second on each individual wheel in order to keep the car perfectly level and the bump never felt in the cabin. It really is amazing. IT is said that even going over speed-bumps at 40mph will never be felt inside the car. There is a picture in one of the mags of their test car (a Lexus LS400) with the Bose suspension on it. It can stand at 45 degrees with its front wheels off the ground with no support what so ever...like doing a wheelie at a dead stop. Pretty cool considering the car weighs 4000 lbs or so.

But I guess if your speaker design is crappy then you gotta get good at something else, right?

Ha! I just noticed the date on that article about the crystals was from 96!

Wouldn't you think these things would be on the market by now if there was any commercial feasibility to them whatsoever?

Or are the speaker companies keeping it under wraps just like the car companies are keeping superefficient engines off the market? ;)

I think the technology may just be a bit too expensive, and just end up as low-volume "audiophile" speakers...and seeming they said Carver was interested, I assume that it was going to be aimed at a larger market segment.

Problem is it would need special amplification to create the signals needed, unless the generators were in teh speaer unit, but that would addd needless bulk at the speaker end, negating it's size benefits, and making installation more difficult. Next part is the wire specs would be a pain in the something for them, compared to regular speakers.

I think it is commercially feasable, but probably not until the technology gets cheaper.

edit: I can't type worth crap tonight...
