Newbee with A/V connect question

Morning all...my first post:confused:

I have a 3 1/2 year old Samsung DLP (HLN617W, no HDMI, but DVI connector) I have been using monster component video cabling with all connections (i.e., TV, RCVR, HD/DVR cable box, DVD player). I recently purchased a new A/V RCVR (Yamaha RX-V1800, w/ 4 HDMI in and 1 out), cable box has HDMI, Samsung DVD has HDMI.

I was thrilled:) to think I could input the HDMI from DVD and Cable box to the RCVR and figurued I'd have to still use component to TV from RCVR. I'm dismayed:( to find HDMI inputs can only go out through the HDMI out....efff! Is that correct? Should I scrap the HDMI route until I get a newer TV? Should I use the DVI with a DVI-HDMI connector?

Thanks, enjoy your Sunday football.

So Gimpy Ric...thanks. Is that true regards to the HDMI in/out. I couldn't have my HDMI in, and use component to TV out?

So I get an HDMI/DVI connector for the out from the RCVR HDMI, and add an audio cable...right.

I use my tv as a monitor only, never use the tv speakeres. Plug up everything HDMI to the receiver that you can. Then go to Blue Jeans, get a male HDMI to male DVI to connect to your tv/monitor.

I wasn't sure about your audio cable question. HDMI carries audio and video.

Gimpy Ric,

Thanks again. I get it now....duh:eek:.

I was thinking ahh..never mind. Wouldn't be using the TV audio anyway...Don

HDMI Limitations

DRM built into HDMI prevents your receiver from taking an HDMI input and outputing it component video. You would also be defeating the purpose of the HDMI inputs by adding this conversion.
