I am in the process of getting my first "Real" system. I believe that i am going with the axiom speakers. (Although i have never listened to them myself, i have read great things about them and like the look, so thinkin about trying them out).
At any rate my question is, Would i be better off buying one of the Axiom HT sets with a sub, or just purchase the 5 channel set and buy a sub elesewhere? If elsewhere, What sub should i go for, i have a mid sized room, 20X30 ft. with about a $1000-$1500 sub-woffer limit.

That is a pretty big room. For under your $1500 limit, nothing will give you as much SPL to fill that room as the Earthquake MKV-15 (the PB12/Plus will come the closest to it). And the MKV-15 will give you excellent quality for music too, as good as some of the best sealed subs out there. Instead of typing in all the info again, why don't you just do a search on MKV-15 in this forum and you will find out all the reasons why it is really close to being in a class by itself, for $1400 especially. If you had to pay full retail of $2700, then there are others that would come into play for sure. Anyway, just read my previous posts. I really don't want to go through everthing again in this thread. One thing I will say, I'm not aware of other subs under $1500 that can hit a SPL of 120dB (quasi-anechoic) when playing combined frequencies of 20Hz, 31.5, and 50Hz (see JJ's review over at Secrets). And another reviewer who tested the earlier version MKIV-15 measured near 120dB at 3 meters (in a huge listening room) from about 25Hz-50Hz. Thats pretty high SPL being measured at 10 feet away.

Here is a little shorcut to one of those posts on the MKV-15 (but do take the time to do a quick search for more complete info):

Axiom EP500

The Axiom EP500 is a great audiophile sub and is up there with the high end offerings from SVS and HSU. In your budget, an SVS Plus or Ultra, HSU HO, or the EP500 are all great options.
If your budget was <$1k, however, then SVS and HSU offer more "BOOM for the Buck" then Axiom lower end subs like the EP350, EP175, etc.

The Axiom, SVS, and Hsu subs are all great options for sure. But that is a huge room he has. To fill it properly, he would need two Ultras (or the Plus/2 or Ultra/2), two HO's, or two EP500's. Otherwise the one MKV-15 will fill it easily within his price range.

Axiom EP600

One Axiom EP600 would probably work well too, but that thing is the size of a refridgerator!
