i've been searching for hours and i'm confused, so i just thought i post and ask. i'm looking for a receiver with some basic options to work with my current components.

requirements

100+ rms watts
2 hdmi inputs for 1080 (hddvd player and one extra) with audio and video processing and through pass
1 hdmi output for 1080 (tv)
2 rca inputs

sounds simple but i'm having trouble finding what i need in hdmi's and power.i'd like to keep it under $600 bucks. i'm not brand specific. sorry i'm such a newb it hurts. i was looking at the hk AVR-247 mainly but it seems to be lacking some real power.

any input or direction would be great

Receiver options

Check out the Yamaha RX-V661 or maybe the Onkyo 605 in the $400 price range. Better yet, enter the AH contest to win the Yamaha receiver.

Well the Onkyo TX-SR705 falls into your budget. The great thing about it is it has preouts for all channels. If you find the power to be lacking and you think the NAD is more up to the challenge, use it as an amplifier for the front channels using the direct amp inputs on the NAD from the preouts on the Onkyo.:D

Don't worry about the power specs, at this price point; Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer, HK, Onkyo are all about the same. Just get the receiver with the features you need at the price you are willing to pay.

i think i've settled with either the hk avr-247 or the yamaha rx-v661. both seem to do what i want but the hk with a little less power. think in real world watts they are comparable per channel? i always hear yamaha's are underrated.

if you were buying either at a discount which one would you choose?

The Onkyo 605 should be fine. The difference in power is only about 1 db of overhead - meaningless.
