hey guys, here on my side of the world, I've heard an imminent release of a new yamaha receiver. (within the 1st or 2nd quarter of the year)

do you have any leaked news you can share?

my guess would be a replacement for the 59 series receivers (with HDMI) to match the incoming HK 47 series receivers.

edit: my guess is wrong, apparently it's supposed to be a HDMI 1.3 receiver with price equal to the 2700 model ... hmmm

I second that.

On a similar note, I've been kicking myself for the last 24 hours. The Great Indoors is an authorized Yamaha dealer and is redoing their entire electronics department. because of this, they've had some great deals that I've taken advantage of: brand-new RX-V1500 for $250, brand-new RX-V2500 for $350, and a brand new RX-V2600 for $775. I have good use for the three receivers that I bought, so I waited on their last, open box, mint condition RX-Z9, with full warranty, that was marked-down to $2195. I stopped by the store yesterday with my fiance to check on our wedding registry and the Z9 was gone!! I asked the guy that sold me my other receivers when it sold and he said "There were 2 other guys that had their eyes on it and one of them stopped-in as we marked it down again, last night, just before close." I asked him what it got marked-down to and he replied: "$1700, with a managers special for an additional 20% off clearance items".

Doh! Someone got my Z9 for $1360, plus tax!!

yeah, and you know they still made money on it, so that just shows you how much markup there is. I hate it that we pay soo much for this stuff that doesn't cost that much to make.

I'm with you on that one, especially since Yamaha now makes most of their stuff in Malaysia and not Japan these days.

Why does it matter WHERE the receiver is made? Whatever is not automated is assembled by trained workers. Parts are the same no matter where it's made. Their QA methodology is the same?

And if you are worried about Malaysia vs. Japan, how about the countless pieces inside one of those things that are made all over the Pacific rim? Displays, processors, resistors, power transistors, transformers...

I would be interesting to hear about your phobia of things Malaysian :)

So, the new receivers that will be coming out later this year will support HDMI 1.3. Does that mean that the TV must also support HDMI 1.3? If so, then I will not be able to upgrade to the new receivers because I just bought my new Mitsubishi WD65831 1080 DLP in December 06. I am pretty sure that it only supports 1.2.

Firstly, you don't need HDMI 1.3.

Now, if your components don't both support 1.3, then they will (somehow) negotiate an earlier version. Not that it matters, because you don't need HDMI 1.3.

no, the tv doesn't have to be 1.3 ... most of the existing issues are about sound, not picture.

I have no phobia of things that are Malaysian, especially since I'm Filipino, with Malaysian and Chinese ancestry. :D That goes for anything else made in the Pacific Rim. My comment on the change in manufacturing location is based on my personal opinion (to each his own, right?), is that many products, especially those that are higher-end just aren't the same when when they change manufacturing locations. While the folks in the new location where chosen because of their proficiency at manufacturing, it's just not the same to me. If anyone feels otherwise, I respect it, but I also like the idea of salsa that was made in Mexico, not in New York City (LOL) ...Corvettes that are made in the USA...BMWs that are made in Germany (Not that there's anything wrong with North Carolina) ...and Burton Snowboards that are made in Vermont. It's kinda like riding a surfboard or snowboard and talking about it having "soul".

This feeling has been top of mind lately for me. I've used Yamaha Electronics in every Production Studio I've ever worked in: Yamaha studio monitors, amplifiers and keyboards. I bought a Yamaha DSP-A3090 integrated amp 12 years ago, which kept me even more loyal to Yamaha. Less than 3 months ago, I bought brand new, in box, from an authorized dealer 1 RX-V2600 and 1 RX-V2500 (for a secondary system). Out of the box, the 2600 had small issues until it finally died a week later. About 10 days after that, the 2500 started emitting a high-pitched tone whenever I turned-on my Yamaha DVD audio player that was hooked-up via component video. Problems with not one, but two units manufactured a year apart? Remember all of the problems that NAD had when they switched manufacturing locations? Hmmmmmm...

Kumusta J.Santos,

Have many made in Malaysia Yamaha components along with vintage TOTL Made in Japan Yamaha( 20 year old CDP, 30 year old NS-1000x,. NS-1000M and more ), so far none have given me trouble except a cheapo CDX-396 CDP which lasted few months. Seems like you were truly unlucky with your made in Malaysia Yamaha.

Kumusta Po!

Yeah...that what it seems like. I don't mean to sound like I'm a threadcrapper, but having two Yamaha receivers go bad was such a disappointment.
