New Usher SW-520 bass pedestal for S-520 speakers....

First speaker that comes to mind is the Wilson Watt Puppy. I don't think it's the same technology.

The Wilsons are a waste of money, better to stick with Usher.

I don't get the point of these bass stands. Just go for regular sub(s) and locate them optimally in your room... Bass stands make very little sens, other than saving space, and wasting money.

It's not so much of a function thing, as it is an aesthetics thing. Much like the Wilson Watt Puppies (waste of money and materials) they are trying to apeal to the interior hi-fi decorator more than the DIY best bang for buck route. I think it's a very good idea especially if one is trying to make a sexy package so it not only sounds great, but looks great too.

Well, after looking around a bit I don't think they are available in the U.S market. The only reference I see of them being on sale is on the Chinese site.

the bass stand sw520 should be available very soon, uk importer is waiting on delivery,

the advantage of the bass stand over an active sub is that they roll off the bass from the s-520 below 200Hz , this removes all the strain put on the little mid/bass unit which should give better power handling and cleaner mid range performance, the bass stand has a quoted 38HZ low point but i reckon that this is forward output from the bass driver and will most likely get down to 30ish Hz in room , you could always run an active sub too but it will have to be a goody to have a LF upper roll off at 25Hz 24db octave to stand a chance of integrating with the sw520.

Heard the Sw-520 with the 520's in Augusta Ga. Very clean mid's and high's, the Sw gives the 520's what they were missing, a little low end.

today i try the ultimate test with SW-520 i try on top the Stirling Ls3/5a but there is some sensitivity mismatch and then i try the proac responce 1s and thats it sound so good!!! my lovely Proac sound more bigger!!!!!

Kudos to them for taking negative feedback and actually addressing it to come up with a cool product like this. I'd be curious to hear everyone's opinions as to how the system sounds as a 4 piece. The idea here is to turn a little bookshelf speaker into a more capable floorstander that doesn't bottom out when driven hard. The S-520s are quite a good bookshelf speaker if you limit their bottom range but used in conjuncture with this bass module, they should be an even more impressive floorstander now.

The combo is very musical with a strong midrange and clean highs, the bass although not earth moving you can't feel it but it's clean and blended nice with the 520's. In my opinion as a newbie on here, there was a good presence of where the instruments were. They were powered by a Vincent SP-331MK amp and a Vincent SA-31MK pre-amp, the source was an expensive TT ( don't know the name) but sounded really good with classical music. I think a separate sub in combo with the little 520's should sound just as good, but I liked the combo. At 70lbs the bass stands don't move at all.
