New TV, old receiver - unsure how to plug it all together

Good afternoon!

I do not know too much about electronics on the whole and am looking for some advice. I recently purchased an LG 47" LN5700 (and love it by the way) and would like to set up very simple surround sound. I have an old hand-me-down receiver Yamama RX-750. The TV has digital and headphone out but the receiver is too old to have digital input. I will eventually get cable, blu-ray and probably a sound bar but would like to use what I have for the time being. I have a set of Bose 201 Series IV speakers to go with the receiver and plan only on using this setup for music or movies not for every day use.
What is the easiest/cheapest/best solution to get the digital out from the TV to the receiver? I saw there are digital/analog converters but did not know if there is another way?

Thanks!!!

Welcome to the forum, Kate, and congrats on the new TV!

With the RX-750, I don't think that there will be much benefit from using the digital audio output on the TV. That receiver doesn't do surround sound, so left/right audio is just fine. My suggestion is to just use the headphone output on the TV. You can get a 3.5mm-to-RCA cable like this one (pictured below, and many people sell them), and connect that headphone jack to one of the audio inputs on the Yamaha (such as the "CD" input). I think that will be the cheapest and best way to do it.

Awesome thanks! I have a handful of those cables laying around; very happy to hear a no-cost solution.
