New to XM Radio..need some advice!

There's one XM radio channel I heard at the gym that I love and so I just have to get some kind of device that I can listen to it on, since they don't have that station on all the time.

But I'm really new at this...I don't want XM for my car...but do they make portable devices? Would the Samsung Helix XM Satellite Radio Receiver - YXM1Z be just such a device?

This apparently has a tuner and MP3 player in it too, which I would imagine is good. But ok...first thing you have to do is subscribe to XM right? But then how does it pick up the feeds on that little thing? Is it just through that small antenna?

So this is just like a walkman that you can carry around and listen to XM channels through headphones or something right? And you can actually get a decent feed that won't fade out?

More player alternatives and recommendations, where to buy etc, appreciated

Janlafata,

You do need to subscribe and prices vary a lot.

Be vary wary of their business practices!! (FYI: I would avoid providing them a credit card or any direct access to bank accounts)

Before signing on the dotted line please spend some time reviewing the AVS Forum on XM at:

FWIW: I had an XM subscritption with a new car purchase in 2008--dropped it after the intro period because, the sound quality was poor (worse than FM) and the programming lacked breath (started hearing the same selections again and again. YMMV.

Last caveat--the receiver will not work indoors, like at the gym (there is a way to install a repeater in a house). For instance, when I pulled my car into the garage, the signal would fade.

Cheers,

I was lucky in that Sirius/XM didn't keep charging me like they have done to quite a few people, but their practices are not good.

About one week after I convinced them to cancel my account (after they tried to trick me into taking 90 days free and hoping I would forget to call back), they started calling me every single days asking me to sign back up. It didn't matter that I told them to stop calling. This went on for a couple of weeks.

My advice is that, you must be careful when choosing...try the next one:
http://www.xmradio.com/

Or you can download a software to listen on your personal computer. Thats the ways I personally use.
