So, while getting a garage sale set up at my house, I came across my dads old turntables and cassette player. Intrigued by world unexplored by me, I began asking him about all of his old stuff and he fnally suggested that I set some of the stuff up myself and give it a try. He supplied me with a technics automatic turntabel, two old advent speakers, an advent 420s amp, and a jvc cassette player. I hooked everything up and played his dark side of the moon album n vinyl. Ever since that moment a few months ago, I have been obsessed with hifi music, vinyl, etc. The things that made lots of people love music lost to the days of digital mp3 files have drawn me in and can't spit me out. I had known from the start that beats by dre were crap. just an overpriced fashion statement, and I have a pair of skullcandies myself (also crap, but i'd rather those than beats just because I hate what beats stand for), but now I'm looking for a pair of audophile worthy headphones, and an extension cord to plug my headphones into my amp/turntable so I can listen to physical music with them. The problem is, i'm not sure where to start. my two best guesses are audio technica and sennheiser. any recommendable models? ATH-WS70 is one of my favorites from audio technica, because all of the audiophile cans from them seem rather fragile and none get good reviews that are in my budget. Now I understand that bass isn't sound quality, but from what I hear, the WS70s have a really lush, smooth bass with beautiful mids, and crisp highs. Thats exactly what I'm looking for and the're in my price range of 200$. With Sennheiser, I have no clue where to start, but if anyone knows what some good models are please let me know. Right now I'm unable to spend the time, money, and real estate in my room for a real, audioholic worthy sound system, and I'm not what one could consider an audiophile... yet, but you have to start somewhere after you feel the need to stive for the best sound possible. Help a newbie out please...

Hi! Welcome to the forum! And congrats on getting into this wonderful audio hobby of ours and discovering the joy of actually paying attention to sound quality! :D

I made a post a while back detailing several of my personal favorite headphones

It is by no means an exhaustive list of all the many great headphones out there. But these are the ones I currently enjoy and keep around for various purposes ;)

I certainly understand your thinking of going with full-sized cans. But don't overlook the option of some great in-ear monitors! I favor Shure for in-ears myself. In your price range, the SE315 would probably make the most sense. They are very nice, very linear and accurate earphones.

Etymotic also makes extremely linear and accurate in-ear monitors, but I've always found their physical design a bit less appealing (they stick out of your ears more and aren't as ergonomic as the Shures), and they have pretty bad microphonics, aka "cable thump". There's no denying their ruler flat frequency response though. So if you're mostly using them while sitting still, they're a pillar of accuracy :)

Anywho, just some options for you to consider. I know I bagged on the Sennheiser HD558 a little bit for their headband design, but they're a great sounding, extremely comfortable headphone at a very reasonable price. The HD598 that I mentioned and own are barely different in terms of sound despite the price difference. I mostly just prefer the 598 for the headband :p

Hope that helps!
