Hello I`m pretty new to this hdmi thing I have a yamaha dvd-c950 it says it`s hdmi is type Ax1 I have never herd of that one before what gives
I haven't checked the specs myself but have you called yamaha [or did other research] to verify that their unit won't do what you want??Thank you for the reply I`m going to upgrade and I was hopping I didn`t have to do the same for dvd to get digital multi-chan through hdmi for sacd but it looks like I`m going to have to thanks again
I`m thinking of upgrade to yamaha c961 it says it will do sacd thru hdmi and I did finally find my manual for the c950 and it wont do sacd thru hdmi only thru analog thanks for all the help!!I can't find any indication that this is a newer version of HDMI. The Crutchfield site does say that the analog outputs must be used for SACD.
What kind of upgrade are you considering?
Ya I figured I have yamaha rx-v1600 & every fu years I sem to have to upgrade thats y I`m going to get the new emotiva pre/pro and amp when it comes out next year so upgrading will be little easier & wife don`t freak so much thanks for the inputYou will likely find your trouble on the other end of the cable. You will need a reciever that is at least HDMI v.1.2 in order to recieve and process SACD over HDMI. That's kinda why I was curious about your upgrade plans. If you are not looking to get a receiver with updated HDMI, you are better off just keeping the player you have and using the multi-channel.
I don't intend to argue with you [I don't know enough!!] ... but why would HDMI 1.2 be required? If there was a player that could decode SACD to the proper PCM digital stream that would only require HDMI 1.1 .... right? You will likely find your trouble on the other end of the cable. hdmi 1.1 will only do dvd-audio you need 1.2 for sacd over hdmi thats what the spec sayI don't intend to argue with you [I don't know enough!!] ... but why would HDMI 1.2 be required? Sorry I'm a newb and I'm trying to learn about this stuff![]()
Correct. It's all in the spec.hdmi 1.1 will only do dvd-audio you need 1.2 for sacd over hdmi thats what the spec say
If the player converted the audio to a PCM stream so nothing else had to do decoding why would you need HDMI 1.2? Doesn't HDMI 1.1 allow you to pass PCM streams [even multi-channel streams]?? Is there something that I don't know about SACD that makes it special to where the player can't decode the audio stream to PCM to pass to the receiver via HDMI 1.1???Correct. It's all in the spec.
