TiM,

That center channel looks a little on the wimpy side. Donno if it is contributing to your sound issues.

I say just get the speakers you want (#1), and then experiment, experiment, experiment.
Good call.

On that note, TiM, I noticed that the Mains are toe-ed in pretty significantly. You will be amazed by how much the sound can change by changing this minor minor minor detail. While more toe-in improves imaging, it reduced soundstage. Try playing around with this too. There is no right or wrong here, just a starting point, which is, with the axis of the two tweeters crossed at your main position or just behind it. After that, like Josten said, experiment, experiment, experiment.

Thanks heaps guys!
argawalro - i will certainly play around with the amount of toe in on the front speakers, thanks for this advice. Yes you are correct the centre is small and certainly not to my liking, i made the mistake of buying a whole system as it was my first purchase and was extremely new to the world of audio haha, but not again will i make the same mistake :p

I managed to be able to get an audition of the studio 20s with the rotel RSP-1570, the RB-1582 and the CDP-1520 in my room. this will be a big help for me in my decision. Also ive been offered the audition of the 100s and sig 2s in my room aswell but will start off with the 20s.

If anyones interested i would be more then happy to share my thoughts on how it all goes :). i will either be picking up thursday or saturday as these are my only free days.

Thanks again guys, appreciate all the help!!

Excellent!!!! Bully for you - going the distance and seeing what you could work out!

Please do!

I see you have the S2 v2 as a candidate. Right now, I have this speaker at home in 2.1 configuration.
For my ear, at my current level of "competence", this is the sweet spot. I have listened to $16,000 to $24,000 speakers and they sound damn good, but when I come home and listen to the S2's, I feel good about what I hear.

One other option you may want to consider is the Focal Solo6, if you can find it. This is a pro-audio studio monitor, so you would need to go to a "guitar-music" store to find them. They cost about the same as the retail price of the S2's (in the USA) and include active crossover and built in amplifiers (100W for tweeter and 150W for mid/bass). I like the idea of the amps being chosen for compatibility with the speakers.
I am convinced that the Solo6 is more accurate than the S2, but the S2 has an added warmth which is pleasant; and, to my perception they are equal despite having different sound characters. Edit: the Solo6s have deeper bass, but that is a moot point if you hook in a sub.

Scroll down for details - there is a large gap between the text for some reason.

Note: The Solo6's have XLR balanced (or unbalanced) connections. Make sure you discuss this, get appropriate adapters, and understand before you hook them up.

Hey guys

sorry for not being able to post earlier, unfortunately the auditioning of the setup is going to have to wait a couple of weeks for various reasons one being financial situation.

I do have a couple of questions though and am hoping you can help me out with these.

1. as i previously stated i listen majority of the time to music with a small percentage of the time movies, as you would have read my consideration for electronics was the Rotel RSP-1570 paired with the Rotel RB-1582 with the CD Player being the Rotel RCD-1520.

Lately ive been pondering on the idea of not going with the Rotel RSP-1570 processor and instead going with a 2ch preamplifier, still keeping the RB-1582 in the equation such as the Arcam C-31 or the Bryston BP-16C. understandably these are the more expensive option compared to the Rotel processor but for my preferations being music over movies would this be the better option, sound wise? I also understand going this route i cant just add an extra power amplifier if i want to go 5.1 as i could with the rotel, and instead would have to have two seperate setups one for music and one for movies if i do later decife to go to 5.1.

Thanks heaps guys!

I look forward to hearing all of your helpful suggestions!
