Previously, you could drop a new version of the drivers into the cabinets. Anyone know if you'll be able to drop a new Ultra driver into the previous Ultra boxes/tubes?

It wouldn't work very well, Abboudc.

The current Ultra enclosures would be underported for the new driver.
The current 525W driver would not be a good match -- the new amp is 750W and the driver can take even more according to Tom. And the plate amp EQ curves designed for the old Ultra would not match the new driver.

The NSD and 12.3 drivers were designed to be drop in replacements for the PCi and 12.x drivers, to work in those cabinets and with those amps.

The new Ultra, amps, and enclosures are a new system, a new matched set.

Nope. The new driver is 13.5", the old one is 12". It won't fit.

Wow, check out these numbers for the upcoming Ultra/2:

Last revision of the new PB13Ultra/2 was 6-8dB ahead of the current ultra/2(about the same as 2.5 of the current ultra/2s). Still a work in progress though. We should have a better idea if that is as good as it will get within 45-60 days.

I have an ultra cylinder now and it's about 40" tall. Not sure what the ideal port length is, but the result of a shorter port should be more output at the expense of extension.

I thought they were using the same size cylinder in the new subs (16" diameter)?

But it makes sense that they wouldn't offer it as a kit since it'd be pretty hard to fit the boxes. Any upgrade would be a DIY job, which i don't think i'm prepared to do. Thanks for the info.

I originally was considering the Plus/2 but when I heard that the Ultra13 was going to be coming out, I decided to wait for that one.

My fear is that going from a double Sub unit to a single sub unit will not perform as well. I am seriously looking for a beast that will make my chest collapse, teeth shatter, and fill my every bass desire (in a serious HT sort of way :))!

Will the Ultra13 do everything that I am looking for or should I wait for the Ultra13/2? (I know this might be hard to answer since it has not been released yet). Thanks

Two Ultra 13s would yield better performance than a 13/2. Heck, even if you have to "step down" to twin 12+ subwoofers, that would still be better than a single dual driver sub. With two subwoofers, you can smooth out the response better and help reduce room mode issues, as well as get insane output.

+1 on that thought, but most people look at it from a standpoint of cost Hmmmm I can get two of these for $3K, or I can get 1 Ultra13/2 for $2.2-$2.3K, (guestimate)

New Ultra ...

When the new 13.1 is released, Ed Mullen and I are going to meet at the factory (I only live about 90 minutes from there), and I will be bringing a couple home.

We have on hand an Ultra TV-12, PB-12 Plus/2, PB12-NSD, Hsu VTF 3.3, HO, and 2.3, JL Audio Fathom F112 and F113, Velodyne DD-18, and are also waiting on the MFW-15 from AV123.

By the time we get all the subs lined up here, Ilkka's testing shoould be complete - I know he will have a VTF-3.3 there, too, so we should be able to put up a lot of info between us.

Unlike past tests, I am hoping to have a few guys over to help - as Ilkka can confirm, the worst part is trying to lug all these subwoofers around by one's self.
