Hey guys, I have a ksw12 sub, athena fs2's, and the rest of the athena lineup. I was considering the buying a better quality sub like a velodyne, but I want the same amount or more volume with lower frequ response and an overall smoother sound. Would it help if I bought another ksw12 to blend in my lows better or just get a better sub altogether? I am trying to stay in the original budget of 500$ to 700$. Oh and I have a yamaha htr 5740.

You should get a better sub. Buying a second one won't help get lower and smoother. Try a VMPS sub, huge bang for the buck, very musical and they come as powerful as anyone could want (flat to 17hz). HSU also make good subs for the money. Another good one is made by AV123 if you are looking to spend 600 or less. There's a good review on this site on the Rocker sub. Cheers.

I have just been reading up on outlaw's lfm-1 and there is nothing but stellar reviews for this whole company. Also the svs pb12-isd/2 looks great on paper and I like the 600 rms power rating. Are these "Bash" amps new and up and coming or have they been around for awhile? Whatever the case the concept sounds great.

Bash amps have been around awhile. The Outlaw LFM-1 is a twin to the Hsu Research VTF-2.

Subs like speakers have a sonic signature. Try to listen to different ones.

Don't get too caught up in watt ratings. If everything else stays the same it takes doubling the watts for every 3dB increase in volume. Efficient design will beat out poor design with lots of power.

It seems like all subs that are usually recomended have bash amps. Hmmmm, I see a pattern amerging so all three of these companies use the same quality amp, but it is the box design, port config, and woofer quality used. Ok I better buckle down on my research if I want to make a decision before the turn of the next decade! :D

I have the Klipsch KSW300{which i'll be selling} and will be getting the SVS 25-31pci. The cylinder will tuck into the corner tighter and at 25Hz@105db{more or less}.
