New speakers, sort of...

I recently up graded my system with a Yamaha HTR-6160. Was also thinking about upgrading speakers. But after hearing my old speakers-I am using 3 EFE modded BIC DV62CLRS across the front, I don't think I am going to. These sound great with the Yamaha! Any one else using these? How do they compare with recent speaker introductions in the same price range? These are about $150 each with mods. Thanks!

Chances are modded speakers will sound better than new speakers. This is because most speakers are poorly built these days.

Now a driver upgrade may be possible, but you would need to know your internal cabinet volume then try to find a driver that matched.

One thing to try is various distances from the wall. Sometimes pushing a speaker against the wall makes it way better.

My guess is that the OP is talking about having the crossover mod done by Ed Frias.

So if I open up my speakers and randomly do 'stuff' to them they will sound better? ::isnert devil smiley here::

Yes, these are the Ed Frias crossover mods. Unmodified they are harsh and bright. After mods smooth and easy to listen to-great for the price, IMHO.
