New speakers for me....

I'm in the market for some front speakers (floorstanding) to replace my current Kenwoods (circa 1990, a little large next to my sleek plasma). I don't really have a matching system (RTi polk surrounds and center, jbl sub). Should I be concerned with voice matching or is that just marketing? I've narrowed it down to these:

Axiom Millennia M60 v2
Polk RTi 10
Polk RTi A5 or A7

I have a Sony STR-DA-7ES that will be powering whatever I get. (120 wtt per channel). I haven't heard any of these speakers and the only thing about the Axioms is that I don't have anywhere to try them out (I can listen to the polks at the local shops) I would say my budget is around $1000 max. I have polk for my surrounds and center channel, hence one of my reasons for choosing them, but the Axioms look shweeeet and from what I've read they sound phenomenal.... I REALLY enjoy listening to music along with movies, so I want the best speaker in my price range. I'm not limited to the above choices, so if anyone has better suggestions, I'm all ears....:D

did you get a discounted price for the Rti10's? they're being replaced so they should be selling at a good price. this may be your last chance to get matching speakers. yes, you should match at least the front speakers.

Its a good idea to audition as many speakers as you can with material you know intimately. Write down as many notes as you can about the likes and dislikes of each speaker you audition.

For the money you are looking at, you can get a pair of PSB Image T45s. They are in that ball park. Its worth an audition. Good luck in your hunt.

Fully agree, don't worry much about rears, but match left/center/right.
Ooops, I've had it the other way around for about 5 years now:eek:

I have matching rears and center:D I thought it sounded pretty good but I guess I can get even better sound with some matching fronts. Who'd a thunk it!

My brother just bought a set of PSB T45's/C40/B25's. He paid $499.00/pr. for the T45, and $219.00 for the C40 center (www.saturdayaudio.com). There you have a very nice matched front set with the same components for $619.00, within your range.

This is a better system that the Polk you mentioned. 3db will probably agree to this fact.

Don't know in your neck of the woods, but here there is four PSB dealers within 20 minutes of each other, so he was able to audition prior to taking advantage of SA's sale. He tried to negotiate a similar price to SA with our local dealers, but none of them was even able to get close.

how much are the Rti12's?

I think the 12's have dedicated mids [3-way], while the 10's have woofers and a mid/woofer (plays both mids and bass) [2.5-way]

i would just recommend an external amp for any of these if you plan to run them lower than 80hz

I too am more into music and after having just purchased a pair of PSB t55's, I think you'd be perfectly happy with a pair of PSB t65's with or without a sub. With my SVS 20-39 pci dialed in with the bass boost off on my old Sony's A.F.D. setting the t55's sound the same on the 2 channel setting with no sub (minus the really, really low end extension) but with a better punch. I'm willing to bet that a pair of t65's would be all that a guy needs to enjoy music at any volume without fear and still be amazed. BTW got my t55's for $585 but shop around for authorized dealers!

$585.00 for T55's is an excellent price, not even Saturday Audio comes close at $629.00. I have auditioned T45/55/65, and I recommend any of them.

The RTi 12's are on sale also. They had them at Fry's for $699/pair. Of course they told me they were out. I'm glad though cause the 12's are a little too big for where I'm gonna put them. They're just a little too deep.
