new speaker options

now that tweeter is going out of business, my desire for a local focal dealer just went out the window.

I now am looking at the definitive tech. mythos two or mythos gem for my front speakers. I am going from a pair of athena bookshelfs and both sounded like a good upgrade from what I have. The look is very important since I can't have something that the wife does not like to look at. I figured I could get the three or seven for a center channel and make it all match perfectly. Anyway, would you go with the mythos gem speakers for half the price of the mythos two? My room is only 20 x 16 so I do not want it to be too much speaker and not sound that good.

Also,
my rear speakers are probably going to be the definitive 800 series since I need them as small as possible. right next to the wall. any input on what to do from here would be greatly appreciated.

Thats a pretty big room. In my opinion thats not enough cone-mass to get great output but if you have to decide just go to best buy and audition them. Most stores sell Def. Tech in their Magnolia dept. now. Bring the wife along and see what she says. Personally, i'd go with the Twos.

I went to Magnolia last night to listen to some differences. They had the two's, gems, but the guy told me if I had the room that the mythos two and gem xl are basically the same speaker, just different styling with on wall vs. bookshelf. Has anyone heard the two in person to say if this is true or not. I have the space to put the gem xl and then maybe I can upgrade the sub form a supercube to a martin logan dynamo.

if you think that is a lateral move than it must have been set up poorly because the supercube didn't sound very good in comparison to the dynamo. Anyway, that is no the big issue, it is whether to go with the gem xl, or mythos two/six speakers.

Its really up to your ears (although they sound similar) and budget as sound wise the sub can make up or the low end and its easier to give sub recomendations. If your budget is around 600 for the sub you have a few good choices that will make a great impact.
